Movie Reviews of Son of GodzillaMovie Review: godzilla turns cuddly Summary: 3 Stars
I remember a week where they played this every afternoon on UHF. In grade 7, my best friend and I watched it every single time while we hung out, laughing and talking. It was truly great fun, my first true experience of camp culture. This is so unbearably crude and ridiculous that it is no wonder the rubber-suited Godzilla has become a kind of icon. So I found this in a yard sale and got it. Unfortunately, my kids - raised on the latest Godzilla and more interested in interactive video - refused to sit through it, though we did have some nice laughs.
Recommended for geezer nostalgia. Maybe I can invite my old pal, who is now famous, to see it with me!
Movie Review: Bette than the suit. Summary: 3 Stars
While this film has what has been described as the worst Godzilla suit ever, and introduces Godzilla's gnome-like "son", it does have a good story and the other monsters are quite well done for the time and reduced budget.
For the ones who are collecting all 28 G-films, grab these before they begin to get rare and expensive.
Movie Review: Great Picture Quality, Re-Dubbed Audio Summary: 3 Stars
The picture quality is excellent on this DVD but the audio is not the original audio tracks
from the original released movie. So if you are a Godzilla fan you may be disappointed by the re-dubbing of the monster movie classic.
Movie Review: Bad Godzilla Movie, Excellent DVD Summary: 2 Stars
"Son of Godzilla" is one of my least favourite Godzilla movies. Not reaching the heights of unintentional comedy that the likes of "Godzilla vs. Megalon" achieved, and far from being an exciting monster movie like the original "Godzilla," this is an unmemorable, rather dull entry in the series. The human plot is even more boring than usual, the monster battles are practically non-existent, Godzilla's foes are appallingly sub-par, the Godzilla suit disappointing, and his son, Minya (or Minilla) is better left undiscussed. The one redeeming factor are the optical effects, which are surprisingly good and better than in previous entries like "King Kong vs. Godzilla." The DVD from Columbia is nothing short of a revealtion. For the first time in North America in widescreen (2.35:1), the sharp and colourful image quality makes the film look a lot less cheap than it used to. For purists, the disc offers English dubbed audio as well as, also for the first time in North America, the original Japanese track with English subtitles. Also included are some random trailers, including one for Columbia's line of Godzilla DVDs and the Japanese teaser for "Godzilla: Tokyo SOS."
