Movie Reviews of Son of GodzillaMovie Review: An exotic and Fun-filled Godzilla Classic! Summary: 5 Stars
A team of scientist and a nosy reporter settle on an almost uninhabited island to test a weather experiment which accidentally causes a radioactive storm that mutates the islands insects into Giant Hungry Monsters. Godzilla arrives to defend his infant son from the Giant Mantis's and a massive deadly spider called Spiga. Throughout the film we also see Godzilla as a father figure trying to toughen up his son who is pretty comical but the film is also filled with awesome Monster brawl scenes.
To start, the setting is pretty sweet. Unlike the past where everything takes place in Tokyo, we finally have a change of scenery where things are less civilized and we are forced to see giant monster fight without retreating. The plot is easy to follow and the acting isn't too cheesy.
The main Villain Spiga AKA Kumonga, is what really reeled me in. A humongous spider with an intention of killing everything in its path its just awesome. Its webbing ability is used for evil as opposed to the Larva Mothra and the final battle where Godzilla and his son take on the wicked foe during a raging blizzard is just intense!
Overall this is a great Godzilla movie. One of my personal favorites.
Movie Review: Just about the "cutest" Godzilla movie I've ever seen. Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, so here's the deal. Scientists fooling with the weather create GIANT preying mantis that don't really do much except serve as fodder for Godzilla to train his newly hatched son on. A giant spider DOES give Godilla and his "mini-me" some problems however and the end is one of those "suspended animation" type of closures.
This movie is FUNNY. Mini-Godzilla can't blow much fire and ends up with pitiful little smoke rings until his quick-witted (?) father comes up with the idea of stomping on the little guy's tail. THAT produces a satisfactory Godzilla blast and with the two of them directing radioactive flames at their enemies they can't be stopped!
This movie is FUNNY and although it suffers from the common "guy in a rubber suit" special effects, it's a must have for those who think these movies have their own specific charm. I remembered this from seeing it as a kid and just had to see what it was REALLY like. Had me laughing and I thought it was a good flick. for what it was.
ONLY for those who LIKE Godzilla movies! If you're just looking for a sci-fi creature flick, you might be disappointed!
Movie Review: A Really Well Done Movie Summary: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of Godzilla since the 80s and I have to say as far as the movies when Godzilla is a good guy, this is extremely underated. The plot makes sense and the monster battles are as great as always. This is the debut of Minya (or Minilla), which throws people off the movie since he isn't that popular with American fans. However, this film also introduces two fan favorite monsters as well, Kamacuras (Gimantis in this movie) and Kumunga (Spiega in this movie). Another thing that some don't like is the way Godzilla looks, which was intended by the creators to look friendly, just really looks ugly. I highly recommend this movie to fans of the genre and Godzilla fans in general that have heard bad or good things about. I say, give it a try and watch it for yourself. I did, and really enjoyed the movie for it's very interesting plot and new monster that are introduced. For a children's film, this still has an adult feel to it which makes it fun for all ages. I love it!
Movie Review: SON OF G ON DVD!!!! A new version in America! Summary: 5 Stars
The Columbia/Tristar (SONY) release of SON OF GODZILLA is the "International" version. It is in wide screen. It also has dubbing done in Japan. This is similar to the recent DVD releases of Destroy All Monsters. So it is different from the version most fans grew up with. (The version that had Peter (Speed Racer) Fernandez as the voice of Goro.) The good news is that it is UNCUT and features a 3 min. prologue cut from the american TV version, which features Godzilla frightening coast guard pilots in a tropical storm at sea. Incidently, Tere has always been some confusion over which island is "Monster Island". Well, the original japanese title of Son of Godzilla is "Monster Island's Decisive Battle". So that settles it. Monster Island is Sorgel Island from Son of Godzilla. Im sure this is just a western arguement and every Japanese fan knows Monster Island is Sorgel island.
