Movie Reviews of Something's Gotta GiveMovie Review: Great Romantic Comedy - Not Just for Adults Summary: 5 Stars
It seems this is the quintessential adult romantic comedy. With absolute greats like Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton as well as a great supporting cast "Somethings Gotta Give" is a beautiful film to watch and enjoy. Sure the premise of the film - that a sixty-something bachelor could keep hooking up with young sexy twenty-somethings may seem a bit out of line but I am sure that there are plenty of twenty-somethings that find rich powerful and older men attractive. But either way one must suspend their disbelief in order to properly enjoy comedy. The film brings together a pair of middle aged adults that complement each other beautifully but don't realize it until the very end. I don't want to further tell of the plot in the case that you fall into the 1% of people who haven't seen this one but do yourself a favor and check this one out.
Using beautiful locations like the Hamptons, New York City and Paris the films is spectacular and with an equally sumptuous soundtrack the film could be great even without the dialogue. Then add in some great writing and its magic. The only drawback is Keanu Reeves who's acting ability never seems to be convincing. If they had cast Collin Farrell (or even Will Farrell) the film could have been better but overall this is a really enjoyable film that is suitable for nearly all audiences. While it may not be demographically engineered toward young audiences that doesnt detract and when our film industry provides so much content toward them and adult romantic comedy is totally welcome. It makes a great DVD to own because it is worth watching again and again and has a suitable amount of bonus material.

Movie Review: Listen to me! It's an AWESOME movie! Summary: 5 Stars
I've read most of the reviews here because I wanted to get a general idea of the feelings about this film before posting mine and I was surprised to see so many negative ones.
I recommend you and all those who put down this movie that you should first think about what you expect from a romantic comedy, because within its genre it's among the best I've ever seen!
Before watching it I wasn't a fan of either Diane or Jack though I liked some of their previous work. Now I'm crazy about them!
Diane Keaton shines like never before, her performance can only be compared to those she gave in Marvin's Room and Annie Hall, but even better! I'm sure I'll want to see more of her in the future. Together with Jack Nicholson they are definitely the stars of the show and I can't help but wonder why it took so long to discover the wonderful chemistry that works between the two and get them together finally for a movie. Hats off to Nancy Meyers for doing that and writing such a clever and witty script for them.
The only thing that stops this from being a perfect film is the ending. The movie goes on a bit too long and that's a mistake from the artistic point of view. However, when I was watching it I really did not want it to end because it was so good and I for one could have watched these two incredible actors for 2 more hours!
So I truly recommend this movie to those who are fond of talents and funny dialogues and do not let the "for the more mature crowd" remarks distract you: I'm 19 and watched it 3 times so far but still can't get enough of it! Fabulous!
Movie Review: Can't wait for the DVD...though I've already seen it 4 times Summary: 5 Stars
None of that 'You've got Mail' whimsical crap in this movie, thanks goodness! Keaton's a bit too high strung, though I definitely hope to look as sexy (and lovable and cute) as her in my fifties! Boy can she cry!!! Nicholson somehow manages to find such a way with words that he transcends the script to another amazing level. What a talent! Frances McDormand was underused but the movie was long enough as it is and her big scene was stellar. I'm 21 and I've watched this movie 4 times in the cinema. Not because I'm bored but because I felt that tug at my heartstrings everytime I watched the relationship develop between the two leads. It's delightfully complex, as it should be, and I could identify with the rawness of opening up to another person, so this flic isn't just for the baby boomers. When was the last time I watched a movie 4 times? ...in another planet probabaly. When was the last time I watched a movie more than once? That was so long ago I can't remember the title of the movie. It's not surprising that I still love listening to the soundtrack...though Jack N. crooning La Vie En Rose wasn't the best addition to a great compilation. I don't know how Nancy Meyers can top this movie in her next effort, by boy do I sure hope she manages somehow. She has just raised the bar for romantic comedies...no more sitting through flaky movies of this genre, I'll just pop home to watch SGG on DVD, when it's released...in the meantime, the movie's still enjoying a wonderfully long screening here in Melbourne!
Movie Review: Jack and Diane At Their Best Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is pure artistry, and simply fun from the first credits to the very end.Neither Jack Nicholson nor Diane Keaton, aging gracefully as actors, have seen fit to have "something done" to improve their graciously handsome looks, and the pleasure of seeing two fine actors obviously enjoying themselves to the hilt without needing to pretend they are 30 years old is a rare and wonderful pleasure. Jack plays a 63-year-old "player," a wealthy record producer who makes it a rule never to date a woman over 30. Diane is the mother of his current sweetie, and she is nobody to tangle with, being successful and wealthy herself, a divorcee who has written hit plays for years. Jack comes to spend a frisky weekend with the daughter, but mama just happens to waltz in the door at the wrong time... done to death, but perfect, perfect, perfect!! Keanu Reeves provides a real surprise as the 30-something doctor who rescues Jack from his heart attack and gets a roaring crush on Diane. It's so nice to see a women of a certain age portrayed as desirable enough to attract an intelligent younger man!! Reeves is sweet and charming as the doctor. I often get bored or impatient with the extras on DVDs--the commentary that takes away from the fantasy of the film itself, so I skipped around a bit. Loved Jack, loved Diane, but would have loved the movie without either of their "extras." That's just me, though--this DVD is a keeper, and I plan to do just that.
Movie Review: Never expected to like it, but I did...a lot. Summary: 5 Stars
Let me start by saying that I am a 37 year old male that generally doesn't watch these types of movies. Okay, here goes...
I just watched this film, and perhaps it caught me at the right moment because it made me cry... twice. There are many reviews out there, so I won't waste your time repeating the good things (I have no bad thoughts about this film, so I won't go there either).
I didn't think this film was anything special when I began to watch it (well, it is a chick flick). Then the relationship between Harry and Erica began to develop and I was being drawn in. Before I knew it I had a tear running down my cheek. Sometimes movies, like people, just click with you. It was unexpected and fun. A message I think the movie tries to portray; that sometimes the best moments in life are unexpected.
One negative reviewer said, "Erica makes a strange decision to choose a man who has been a jerk to her over one who has treated her with total kindness. What woman in her right mind would dump a gorgeous doctor who is madly in love with her (and with whom she has great chemistry) for an insensitive playboy who has broken her heart?"
If you think along these same lines, don't bother watching this film. If you are the type of person that is willing to let your emotions take you for a fun ride, give it a try. Love is never logical. That is why it is such a beautiful thing. Enjoy!
