Movie Reviews of Some Like It HotMovie Review: A Whole Different Sex! Summary: 5 Stars
What a true film classic this movie is. Recently voted the funniest American film ever in AFI's poll of the 100 Funniest Movies, it never fails to entertain. The pairing of Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon is pure magic. Each may not have been Billy Wilder's first choice for their respective roles, but one cannot imagine anybody else playing them now. As for Marilyn Monroe, she is the fragile, beautiful heart of the entire film. Her Sugar Kane is tragic, funny, sexy, and adorable all at the same time. I read how some of her lines had to be written out and displayed for her to read out while filming, and somehow this doesn't take away at all from her performance. She WAS Sugar Kane, always reaching for but not quite getting the sweet end of the lollipop. Jack Lemmon almost takes the entire movie as Daphne, his female alter-ego. How subversive this movie must have seemed in 1959, when a top male star could be seen reveling in his feminine side! As with "Sunset Boulevard" and "A Foreign Affair", the true strength of the film is the cast. Each person was letter perfect in their role. All of Billy Wilder's films should be essential viewing for any film buff. What he had was a true eye for talent in his acting roles, demontrated again and again in all his films, the knack for knowing who to put in what role. How many potentially great films have been hampered by questionable casting? It is a true gift, and not many really have it. This truly set Billy Wilder apart, and helped him turn this outrageous story into the classic it is now. Get this film for your collection, you won't regret it.
Movie Review: ...and nobody's perfect Summary: 5 Stars
You probably know the plot already- during the St. Valentines Day massacre of 1929, two traveling musicians are inadvertent witnesses to the shooting. To avoid being discovered-and massacred themselves, they dress up as women and join an all-female band on its way to Florida. Tony Curtis' character(Joe) is looking forward to it, so that he can spend more time with one of the musicians while Jack Lemon's character (Jerry)is horrified to find himself fighting off the advances of a rich admirer who's lured by his feminine charms.
This was a ground-breaking movie in its depiction of gender-swapping and cross-dressing without any disapproval. The famous last scene, in which Jack Lemon admits to his suitor (the wonderfully antic Joe E. Brown) that he's really a man and Brown replies "Well, nobody's perfect." was just as funny in 1959 as it is today and a great deal more outrageous. In a way, it's just as outrageous today because it tells the story without a wink, a leer or a lecture. It's hard to imagine a modern director resisting the temptation.
The picture quality is great, Marilyn Monroe is too good to be true, but the extras aren't worth your time. No matter, this is rewatchable forever.

Movie Review: What's Not To Like? Summary: 5 Stars
Some people still say this is the greatest comedy ever made in Hollywood. Who am I to argue? Even after almost 50 years, it's still very funny and not the least bit dated. It is one of the true classics in the history of film.I I know one thing: Marilyn Monroe never looked hotter!
The film is a wonderful combination of comedy, action, suspense and romance with great old-time gangster scenes played out first in Chicago and then in Miami Beach. George Raft and Nehimiah Persoff are just great as gangsters.
The stars, though, are Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis but you can also enjoy performances from famous known actors like Pat O'Brien and Joe E. Brown.
The action scenes are in the beginning and end. In the middle, the bulk of the film, is the main story featuring comedy and romance. Lemmon has the best lines in the film and his facial expressions alone evoke lots of laughter.
This film is so famous that there is no need going into detail, but for some younger person reading this, don't worry about this being an old-fashioned, boring black-and-white film your parents or grandparents liked but you would find boring. You'll have fun watching this, too, I guarantee it.
Movie Review: Story of my life. I always get the fuzzy end of the lollipop. Summary: 5 Stars
1959's classic Some Like it Hot is one of the best movies of all time, the end.
When Joe(Tony Curtis) and Jerry(Jack Lemmon) two best friends and musicians, accidentally witness a mob murder, they've got to drop everything and run away to the next best thing; which in this case happens to be dressing up as women and stowing away on an all women's band traveling to Florida.(of course!)
"Don't look now, the whole town is under water."
On the train they meet Sugar(Marilyn Monroe) the most beautiful disaster of a singer, who becomes great friends with them when Daphne(or known previously as Jerry) saves her from getting in trouble for carrying a flask.
If that wasn't enough Joe's falling for Sugar, and in his desperation dresses up as a billionaire in order to woo her; While at the same time Jerry seems to have forgotten he's really a boy, and is engaged to a millionaire himself!
A tale of great web tangling, lying, deceit, love, and a great, great deal of comedy.
A classic by any definition.
Movie Review: Funniest Movie Ever--A Masterpiece Summary: 5 Stars
I have always thought "Some Like It Hot" is the funniest movie I've ever seen. And sure enough, The American Film Institute has named it the funniest Hollywood movie ever. So why is it so funny? Well, the script by Izzy Diamond and Billy Wilder is as good as Billy ever wrote. Next, Billy's casting was a stroke of genius: Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon as the fake girls, and Marilyn Monroe as the REAL girl.
Zowee!, as Joe E. Brown would say. And then there is the supporting cast of the usual movie mobsters and Joe E. himself. The plot has been well covered here in other reviews. Rest to say that the scene on the yacht with Tony (as Cary Grant) and Marilyn is the sexiest-funniest scene I've ever seen in movies.
If you want the real take on this movie masterpiece, read Tony Curtis' book on the movie, which came out recently just before he died. R.I.P, Tony. I'm reading it right now--bought from Amazon, of course, and I can tell you it's great. Imagine having both Janet Leigh and Marilyn Monroe as bed partners in one lifetime? Zowee!
