Movie Reviews of Snow Falling on CedarsMovie Review: A beautiful film in every way Summary: 5 Stars
I find very few DVDs I would own but I do have this one in my collection. I feel it's one of the most beautiful films ever made. The story is sensitive and delves into the characters' emotions which are evident by simple expressions on their faces. Much of this movie is non-verbal and that is what makes it so intriguing, much like a foreign movie. Ideas are subtle rather than blatant and "in your face." The movie assumes its audience is intelligent and able to think a little. I can understand why younger people find the film boring and slow because it's so different from the Hollywood movies being pumped out today.
Movie Review: A powerful movie Summary: 5 Stars
This movie gives a portrayal of Japanese prejudices after WW II. Amidst those prejudices is a secret love between a white boy and a Japanese girl. After realizing their love can't continue under the circumstances, the girl breaks off the relationship. She later marries a Japanese man who is accused of killing a white fisherman. Still holding her in his heart, he has to decide if he wants to let her husband be found guilty for a crime he did not commit, although it could mean reuniting with her once again. This is a powerful movie. I highly recommend it for those with an appreciation for history and a good love story.
Movie Review: A Great One Summary: 5 Stars
This is a movie that relies on photography, fine acting, and simple story telling. There are no chases, very little violence, and none of it gratuitous, no nudity, very little profanity (and that bland by many people's standards), and only one depiction of sex between the central characters. The movie is gripping, it is beautiful, and the cast is magnificent. The story is complex, involving a love story, a son growing up in his father's shawdow, a war, a national disgrace, and a murder trial. The photography is stunning. The passions are timeless. The entertainment is transfixing.
Movie Review: I read the book and watched the film Summary: 5 Stars
For some reason, a great many viewers seem to have strong negative feelings about this film. I think it is a neglected beauty, both a faithful adaptation of a fine book, and a near perfect memory piece. A complex mixture of love, loss, and various injustices wrought by war, the film rewards in many ways. The performances are strong, as is the direction, and the screenplay.Perhaps its brooding tone, shifts in time, and portrayal of a shameful period in US/Japanese relationships are an unsettling brew for the casual movie viewer. This is a fine DVD presentation of an excellent feature.
Movie Review: testing your artistry Summary: 5 Stars
This film tests the artistic sensibility of the viewer like no other film I've seen for a long time. The flood of images is a splattering of memories that provoke love, anguish and loyalty. For the reviewers that say that the movie is boring, too slow, not enough action, etc....Watch the film again and watch for symbolism. Forget our society's drive for action, immediate gratification and quick and simple conclusions. You will see a film that settles down over your soul like snow falling on cedars.
