Movie Review: Fantastic Performance

I bought this DVD concert 6 weeks before going to see Simply Red live in Auckland on the 15th February 2009, as part of their world greatest hits tour.
I struggle to see what other reviewers find wrong with this concert in order to give it less than five stars. The photography, lighting, sound quality and overall presentation by the band are outstanding. This concert builds nicely from the first track to a sequence of greatest hits in the last part of the concert which really get the crowd and the DVD viewers (I must say) going.
If you think the studio recordings of Simply Red sound great, then buy this DVD concert as the sound is at least as good as any CD I've heard if not better !!
A song performed by the band, originally sung by the Stylistics I think, ""You Make Me Feel Brand New" is outstanding - Mick displays his great vocal range from the deep vocal notes at the beginning to the high but powerful higher notes of the main theme. The falsetto sections of the song sung by the lead singer of the Stylistics is replaced by the tremendous powerful higher notes of Mick's vocal range and it can almost bring tears to your eyes with the expression and power of the man's talents.
The song "Holding Back The Years" starts with a rare performance by Mick where he plays the acoustic guitar during the first verse of the song, then the full band joins in - a beautiful performance of this song.
Before completing this review, I viewed the "Cuba Simply Red" concert DVD and it is at least as good as the Sicily concert - it is an indoor concert and any greatest hits missing from the Sicily concert will be found on this DVD. Hopefully a DVD will be produced at one of the venues of the Greatest Hits Tour in 2009 showcasing all of their greatest songs in one show - bring it on !!!!
Mick's vocals are pitch perfect at a live performance and the instrumental backing is rich and satisfying - you will not be disappointed
