Movie Review: Peace on (a small pocket of) Earth
Summary: 4 Stars

Silent Night is another heart-warming Christmas tale, this one from World War II Nazi Germany that like the WWI tale "Joyeux Noel", is supposedly based on actual events, when through a series of events a small unit of American GI's are forced to beg hospitality from a German house wife (Linda Hamilton) , who luckily happens to have chosen to take her 12 year old son, to the family hunting cabin a couple miles from the front. It is Christmas Eve, a blizzard is blowing and a Nazi Unit stumbles into the cabin on the verge of freezing to death. What happens next is that slowly, the enemies eventually come to recognize that they have more in common then they have differences.

I like this movie if for no other reason than it demonstrates, the stupidity of two countries claiming identical religious beliefs deciding to make war with one another.

So here's the deal, the story is a bit far fetched at times, and the acting a tad stilted, and even Ms. Hamilton's accent tends to fade in and out a bit, but the message is sweet enough to largely make up for it.

3 ½ *

Movie Review: Touching and well done
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a touching and well done film that shows that hatred is never the answer. It takes place during WWII and American soldiers and German soldiers must share a home for the night. Linda Hamilton does a great job as the German owner of the home, as does the boy who plays her son. There are some exciting moments with plot twists and the viewer doesn't know how the story will end. With the exception of the Lord's name in vain once (which I wish it didn't have!) this movie is highly-recommended for those ages 11 and above due to the mature content. I have added Silent Night to my Mom-Approved Family Movie list on my blog (for ages 11 and over). A definite must-see!
