Movie Review: Best movie... ever.
Summary: 5 Stars
Rose Da'Silva is concerned about her daughter Sharon's sleepwalking. To cure her, she takes her to the ghost town of Silent Hill to cure her illness, despite the protests of her husband, Christopher. However, a car crash soons strands Rose in the town, looking for her daughter. Joined by police officer Cybil Bennet, Rose must face the town and the evil within it in order to find her daughter.
I'm a Silent Hill nerd. I've been with the games since the release of Silent Hill 1 on Playstation back in the late 90's. I am fascinated with all four of the games, with the entire universe as it is. I was very worried when I heard they were making a Silent Hill movie. I got even more concerned when I heard they were changing Harry from a man to a woman. But alas, I was fascinated, because my video game obsession was making the leap to the big screen. And my Lord, I was not disappointed.
I saw the film four times in theaters, and I was counting down the days until August 22nd, when it would be released on DVD. I was very excited for the DVD because of the six part making of the movie, and I am always fascinated by making-ofs. But, more than anything, I wanted to watch the movie again.
What makes this movie so amazing and gorgeous is the way that director Christophe Gans shot it. Gans put true passion, true love into the film, and being a fan of the games himself, true KNOWLEDGE of the universe itself. The monsters look AMAZING, and considering that none of them were CG, aside from the cockroaches, makes them even more of a step in film making. The cast is also very strong, with Radha Mitchell putting in a strong performance. Laurie Holden and Jodelle Ferdland put in amazing performances. Even the people who play the monsters put amazing soul into their parts. As for the gore and disturbing images in the film... yeah, this movie was graphic. The ending is brutal, full of blood, gore, and death. But the movie isn't just a gore fest- it's full of detail to the games, and little things that make it so unbelievably amazing.
The DVD contains a six part making of featurette, with all six parts totalling in at about 60 minutes.
A great DVD. You can do what I did, and buy two. In fact, you should buy two.
