Movie Reviews of Sigur Ros: Heima

Movie Review: Not even a fan of Sigur Rós
Summary: 5 Stars

I must admit that I am NOT a fan of Sigur Rós! I lived in Iceland when the concert in Reykjavik went off and I was bored. Some may say I was negligant - but that was just the way it was at that time.
Then I was recommended this DVD. I was very sceptical at first and it took me a long time to get my hands on it.
Reluctantly I put it on - and was blown away.
This "movie" is simply amazing. It is photographed in an amazingly beautiful way and SR's soundtrack is absolutely perfect.
The landscapes of Iceland filmed in a special blue hue is just captivatving and it stresses the mood of the film, the country, the stories and... everything Iceland!
I am so please having bought this DVD and it is a great supplement to "Screaming Masterpiece" - which btw was the movie that made me interested in SR beyond the hype.
"Heima" and "Screaming Masterpiece" are highly recommended!

Movie Review: A must watch for the Sigur Ros fan
Summary: 5 Stars

I take that back: a must watch, period! This music DVD contains 2 discs with material recorded during the band's 2006 homecoming tour through Iceland. Particularly special about it are the intimate (at times, unplugged) performances the band did for their fellow countrymen and women for free. Complementing these are some incredibly powerful (as in LOUD, get-off-your-seat-for-once) performances from their first four albums that are bound to have you give them all the respect they've earned as one of the best musical acts in the world today.

The first disc is peppered with interviews that give you an insider's view of the band and how they work together, their feelings about home and stardom and life at large. The second disc contains the complete performances without commentary, so you can focus on enjoying the music alone. Either way you look at it, you cannot pass this one.

Movie Review: Who's Sigur Ros?
Summary: 5 Stars

Haven't heard of Sigur Ros? Don't know their music? This DVD is a great place to start!!!

Not only do you get a "best of" in terms of the music, but it is all set to the most amazing scenery that's beautifully and sensitively filmed.

In fact some of the versions of their tracks are better on this DVD than on the album. There's a pureness and vulnerability that comes from performing in a community hall in front of fifty people. Or performing acoustically on the soon to be dam bed. And the natural sound of the glacier. Amazing!

The DVD is both Dolby Digital and DTS. The camera work is great. So to is the commentary.

The music, the topography, the interviews - this DVD is a gem!!

Movie Review: Nostalgia, Goofy Interviews and Priceless Cinematography = Heima
Summary: 5 Stars

Considering the fact that I no longer pass my days in my native lands, for me, a viewing of Sigur Ros's film "Heima," a documentary about the groups return home to Iceland after a year-long long tour abroad, inspired in me an onslaught of personal nostalgia and introspective reflection. The combo of the indubitably beautiful music and landscapes, along with the quirky idiosyncrasies that characterize the Icelandic brood, make one personally investigate the sentiment that comes along with having a "home". However, be warned... although they DO speak English throughout the film , I recommend hiring English subtitles due to the nearly incomprehensible English spoken by the band... But no worries, it's mystic and cute....

Movie Review: Great Travel Piece for Iceland and Common Men
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great music dvd this is. I normally do not like music dvds, too often filled with preening and self-adoration. But this one is different, showing the geography and scope of Iceland and its people in a very fresh, low-key and brilliant way, as well as showing off the music and the relative humility and humanity (as well as talent) of the musicians. I bought my first Sigur Ros CD years ago, and hadn't any idea what any of them looked like. You get to see them here, but in such a humble, common man way it is really refreshing. You also see much of the ordinary people of Iceland and the massive, empty scenery of the place. Just beautiful at virtually every level.
