Movie Reviews of Sigur Ros: Heima

Movie Review: Fantastic. Beautiful. Belive the hype!
Summary: 5 Stars

A documentary following a band in another country, singing in a language I cannot understand? I'd normally have zero interest in a film like this. But you know what? wow Wow WOW!!

I was absolutely riveted. It's BEAUTIFUL. Every frame of this film is beautiful imagery and/or amazing composition. The way it's filmed, the way it's cut, the music - they all come together to create something that, at least for me, transcended the sum of its parts.

Ever been to Iceland? Do you speak their language? Do you have any idea who Sigur Ros is? No? Doesn't matter. Neither did I. But when this film ended, I was absolutely blown away by it.

If you've seen the Planet Earth DVDs - especially in HD - Heima will give you that exact same sense of wonder with its imagery and unique viewpoint as they intercut scenes of Iceland's wonders and her people into the film, but the addition of the music, and the creative shots and editing just puts it over the top for me. It's like nothing I've ever seen, and how often do you get to say that? About ANYTHING?

If you have even a passing interest in film, art, photography, or simply love being immersed in an incredible audio-visual experience, DO NOT MISS THIS FILM.

I haven't been so artistically inspired by *anything* in years, and I can't recommend this film enough. Wow. Great work to Dean and the gang.

PS: It's an absolute crime that there is not "making of" documentary included with this! Other than that, it's perfect. In fact, I'm going to go watch it again right now!

Movie Review: If you're not moved by this, 5 Stars

While paging through my cable guide one night, I saw this playing on IFC. As I already had their CD (), I decided to check it out. While I missed all but the last half-hour or so, I was so impressed I just had to have it. After just having watched the complete feature for the first time, my initial impressions have only strengthened.

In 2006, after a world tour, the band returned to their native Iceland for a series of unannounced, free concerts. This literally sets the stage for what is to come - because when a rock band does that in this day and age, you KNOW they love and respect their land and it's people. And when you watch and listen, those emotions come through loud and clear. While the music itself is enough, sometimes rocking but always evocative and moving, when combined with the stark, beautiful Icelandic images, this DVD becomes simply transcendent. And seeing it now, knowing it was made before the recent economic collapse, it's all the more poignant. One can't help but wonder whether the band will do another such tour now, when it is needed more than ever.

And this is a terrific value also - there is a second, 152 minute disc that contains the full-length performances of all the songs featured in the film, plus extras. In short, a musical...visual...EMOTIONAL tour-de-force. For all fans, of Sigur Ros specifically and music in general, simply essential.

Movie Review: Sigur Ros
Summary: 5 Stars

Wlasnie obejrzalem Dvd 'Heima'. Wystepy zespolu sa tu zgrabnie wplecione pomiedzy lokalne krajobazy (prywatny pokoj goscinny, protestowana zapora wodna, zapomniana przetwornia ryb, otwarte i klubowe sceny Reykiaviku), oraz krotkie wypowiedzi czlonkow zespolu.
Drugi krazek (150 min) jest zlepkiem zdjec koncertowych (czesc powtarza sie z pierwszego Dvd), i mozna sobie go odpuscic. Jednakze polecam pierwsza czesc 'Heima', chocby ze wzgledu na niechybna uczte wizualnych emocji.

Movie Review: deep water
Summary: 5 Stars

Upon just completed viewing the new Sigur Ros dvd film, 'Heima', one word comes to mind - stunning. Simply put, it is a timeless and transcendant work of art which seamessly marries sonic landscapes with visual ones.

The choice to present the material with great subtlety and beauty mirrors the reverence and quiet intensity of Sigur Ros' music (a rare feat indeed in generally capturing the essence of performed music).

I was particulary captivated by the absolute lack of ego seen on the faces of the people in Iceland. This was especially noticeable in the separate interview segments with the each band member. They really come off as being refreshingly humble and authentic. Considering the refined power of their expression, it is easy to understand that by being this way is how they are able to create such potent and haunting music.

If you have a soul (and know it) and can appreciate exquisite beauty, than this film is a necessity. I'd recommend seeing it uninterrupted and in a contemplative mood. Takk to Sigur Ros!

Movie Review: Really paints a picture of a people...
Summary: 5 Stars

I just saw this film today and was completely awe inspired. I really felt an attachment to the music and the rich visuals accompany the said music perfectly. I'm a HUGE Sigur Ros fan and I've always felt that their music is music that you can touch. You can pick it up and put it in your pocket. It's very nostalgic and with the equally as stunning Icelandic scenery, the music becomes positively epic.

After watching this I felt like I had a very solid understanding of the kind of place that Iceland is. I felt very connected to it and this film certainly brings that flavor, culture and attitudes of the people into your home, as well as some fantastic music! Sigur Ros is one of the only bands whose music I would recommend buying blindly. I would honestly tell someone who has never heard of them to go out and but an album of theirs simply because it is so poignant and soul felt.

Highly recommended, especially for Planet Earth and Koyaanisqatsi fans, simply because of the GORGEOUS footage of Iceland.
