Movie Reviews of Show Me LoveMovie Review: Incredibly Beautiful Story Summary: 5 Stars
A perceptive and bittersweet story about two girls growing up in a small Swedish town. Amal is a town where nothing at all happens, hence the title "F... Amal" borne from Elin`s frustration. Agnes, ostracised by her peers and misundestood by her parents, is so charming you just want to hug her to death. Elin, who wants to be Miss Sweden, is brash but she grows on you. It is mostly her story as she is the one who changes, when she makes an unexpected move - she goes to the wrong party - the birthday party of Agnes, a lesbian, who has a crush on Elin. This is the catalyst for them to discover their attraction for each other. Filmed in documentary style, the harshness of small-town life is contrasted with the funny and gentle tenderness that develops between the girls. Both actresses won the prestigious Swedish Guldbagge award, and the film has won many international awards, outgrossing Titanic in Sweden and The Netherlands. Show Me Love - it certainly did!
Movie Review: Best love story I've ever seen, Summary: 5 Stars
In the spirit of "KIDS" this swedish film has brought the (sometimes disturbing) reality of High School to the big screen. Set in a small town, the story follows two best (female) friends into the frustratration that is teenage love. They bounce from party to party getting drunk and looking for boys, the monotony of the same thing every night drives one of the girls to look for love outside her group of friends. Its hard for me to put in words (I'm no writer) how good this movie is, it takes "taboo" and makes it alright. This movie has adult themes including: adult language, adult situations, and brief nudity (a shot of a playboy centerfold that last no more than 10-20 sec). I hope that doesn't prevent open minded individuals from seeing this movie, trust me its worth the time! If you don't want to buy, atleast go rent it, or watch it on HBO (that is where I saw it the first time). Its worth it: find it, watch it, I don't think you will regret it.
Movie Review: A great film about life. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a brilliant movie about the life of some people in a boring small town in Sweden. It's about being an outsider, like Agnes (Rebecca Liljeberg) and the difficulties about being popular, like Elin (Alexandra Dahlström), who discovers a new side of herself. This is not only a film about lesbians and a problematic love story. It's also a movie about life, love and about prejudice. Agnes mother says she has nothing against lesbians, but it's really hard for her to accept that her daughter is. All the charachters in this movie are very good, the lead characters are, and also the smaller ones, especially Jessica, Elin's sister, Agnes's parents and Johan and Marcus. And the actors are great in their roles. This is a fantastic movie about being young and all the problems that might be involved. And also about how difficult it can be to be a parent. It is full of great scenes, like the car scene and the toilet scene. And Elin's and Jessica's arguments.
Movie Review: Touching, funny, and uplifting Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful reality-based film on teenage love and growing up in a small, boring town. The acting is brillant, you'd never know they were; the characters are believable, and while the plot may seem ordinary, the film is far from it. It's a movie to be watched over and over again, and I would recommend buying it, because you'll want to see it more than once! Although the only downside is the translation to English. Not perfect at all, somewhat second-rate, but the subtitles are very easy to get through. This movie made me want to learn Swedish! I find myself paying more attention to their reactions and language other then focusing on the subtitles. This is a good movie to show to someone who is narrow-minded. Not just in the aspect of homosexuality, but about other things as well. It will open their eyes. I think this is a film more people should see, and it will always be my most treasured of all movies.
