Movie Reviews of Show Me Love

Movie Review: I was moved...again and again...
Summary: 5 Stars

Having watched a lot of lesbian themed film. The one film that truly touched me is "Show Me Love". There is no cliche storyline or dialogue in the film. It is a truly sincere piece of film making with wonderful acting talent all around.

The film revolves around Elin (played to perfection by Alexandra Dahlström who is 14 year old at the time of filming) and Agnes (Rebecca Liljeberg, 17 at the time of filming). It's a coming of age movie that explores the difficulties of being a teenager in a small town in Sweden and being a lesbian.

What amazes me most about the film is the dialogue is perfectly delivered by all the young actors, not feeling like they are acting. Filmed in almost Dogma style, the film had a wonderfully written script. It is a film that you can watch over and over again and discover something new and unique during each viewing.

It was great to see the actor's reaction and facial expression throughout the whole movie. My favourite moments:
- Elin's first realises that she could be in love with Agnes when confronted by her sister Jessica on the swing.
- Agnes reaction towards the teasing when she was exposed as a lesbian in school.

The supporting cast was equally wonderful. Jessica (Elin's popular sister) and Johan (Elin's fake boyfriend). This is a film that I will definately enjoy for many years to come.

Movie Review: An encouraging movie that does not lie to you!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definitely not just another trashy movie about discovering your own homosexuality and how it feels to be an emotional unsecure Teenager; although "Show me love" treats theese topics in a very sensible and honest way, I think it would be a mistake to reduce the story of Agnes and Elin with its quite unconventional way it is told by Lukas Moodisson on the homosexual aspect. The film also can be watched as a story about going your own way despite of the popular opinion. Amal is everywhere!
On the European CD-cover they try to tell you this were the swedish answer on "American pie". No, that seems definitely wrong - its much more than that, because watching this movie, you will be able not to laugh about, but to suffer (and finally: laugh) with the charakters. "Show me love" does not just take its charakters serious, but (important as well) even the audience. There is no false political correctness, there are no inhonest solutions, masked behind a soundtrack, deniing the existence of real problems.
Agnes and Elin find the courage to listen to their feelings, to use their brains, to respect each other - which message could be more encouraging and honest at the same time?

Movie Review: swedish movies sometimes suck, but not this one!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Well hello there!

Let me see. I feel like I can truthfully say that some movies from Sweden suck big time, but this "love story" is really good.

A typical young girl named Agnes, falls in love with Elin.
Agnes has discovered something about herself and she realizes that she is in love with Elin, the girl that every boy wants and with the reputation as the "schools slut" For some reason everyone thinks she has been with everyone.

Agnes is the geeky one with not many friends, and of course she has to carry her feelings for Elin all by herself. In the beginning Eling doesn't think much about Agnes. Just that she is a freak. But as Elin start getting to know Ahnes she realize that they have more in common than she first thought!

This is one of the best swedish movies I have ever seen. It is not based on the fact that we have to see erotic scenes between Agnes and Elin. Instead we can see two people falling in love, and not giving a da** what other people think of them!!

I suggest that you see it!! It's really good!!

I am from Sweden, and the only thing I don't like would be the translation from Fu**ing Åmål to Show me Love. but but, sometimes we translate american movies into funny swedish names! lol

See ya

Movie Review: Achingly real
Summary: 5 Stars

'Show Me Love' is a truly beautiful and enchanting film. Despite it being based on the lives of teenagers in a small Swedish town, the subject matter is one that will strike an emotional chord with people from all age groups and all walks of life. Agnes' love for Elin is one that is bitterly familiar to everyone, however sadly, for most viewers, their tale will not end as happily as that of these two girls.

Of all the countless portrayals of teenage life that have been created by the world of cinema, none compare to 'Show Me Love' in terms of truth and realism. Within 'Show Me Love' Lucas Moodysson strikes a beautiful balance of emotion that will appeal to most viewers. He allows his characters to express passion and unrequited love, without ever slipping into overdone, Hollywood style shmaltz. Conversely he also allows his characters to undergo pain and suffering, without ever letting the tone become too bleak. It truly is a film that aches with realism.

Lucas Moodysson is an accomplished and intelligent director and one can only hope that he can reach as wide an audience as possible. He is capable of breathing fresh air into, not only the teenage movie genre, but cinema in general.

Movie Review: Moving and Honest.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a coming of age story that struck me as being true-to-the-heart and very gripping, often being poignant. The latter is for myself the best proof that I liked the movie a lot (so many movies are made with the intention of being poignant, with as result hopeless affairs).

The two leads are talented and made everything look realistic. So much that I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they look even the age they are supposed to play, even though Rebecka Liljeberg and Erica Carlson are older in real-life than in Show Me Love (also known as F**king Amal). The ** are there so as to prevent Amazon from butchering this review.

Do not miss this one.

A review mentioned: "outgrossing Titanic in Sweden and The Netherlands."

Regarding the above: Titanic is an excellent example of superficial, pretentious crack, and those two countries have taste (no pun intended). And, Sweden/Denmark, make more movies like this!

Heartbreakingly simple but the epitome of Truth.
