Movie Reviews of Shopgirl

Movie Review: Better than the Book
Summary: 5 Stars

ShopGirl was really good. I didn't expect it to be such a great movie, but it was.
Claire Daines is just wonderful in it, and she will probably get an Oscar nomination. Jason Schwartzman is hysterical.

Steve Martin plays an extremely wealthy man who meets Claire Danes when she works at Saks Fifth Avenue .
Originally, Tom Hanks was supposed to play the Steve Martin role. I would have liked to have seen him in it.

Its a touching story. I had read the novella, Shopgirl, when it first came out - so I was really interested in seeing the movie.
I think the movie was actually better than the book.

Movie Review: Romances contemporáneos
Summary: 5 Stars

Movie Review: A Favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is one of my favorites. I don't remember it getting much advertisement or recognition during the time it was in theaters, but I really think that it should have. It IS a romantic comedy, which I usually don't care for. This one, however has a more realistic quality to it. The humor in it is subtle, but great and the ending is not your typical mushy cheesy ending that many other romantic comedies possess. It is well acted, has interesting characters, good music, and a good story. I can watch it again and again.

Movie Review: A nearly perfect film
Summary: 5 Stars

Never would I have expected this film to deliver such a gentle and clear presentation of loneliness, doubt, hope and possibility. By the end, everyone who was watching this with me was in tears, and for a moment, we all recognized the fragility within each other that we try so hard to mask. Ms. Danes is absolute perfection as is Mr. Martin and they're complimented in every scene by exquisite cinematography and one of the most perfectly matched film scores in years. An absolutely beautiful film.

Movie Review: The best loves come in an odd package
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a surprise love story. The obvious man of class Ray is not Mirabelle's best choice of a partner. In fact, the man who fights for her is blossoming, he evolves so he can win her back, it a brilliant plot. Actually they both evolve through different experiences and find each other again. Mirabelle's choice to hurt now rather than hurt later is telling. She lets go of the package to find the form in the young man who actually wants her.
