Movie Reviews of Shoot the MoonMovie Review: i can't believe my eyes! Summary: 5 Stars
i am nothing short of flabbergasted that they are finally releasing this movie on dvd. i repeatedly watched this movie back in the 80's when my family had HBO growing up. a poignant and heart-wrenching film about the dissolution of a married couple with four young girls. diane keaton, albert finney, karen allen and peter weller give amazing performances but the real star here is dana hill. her performance in this film is nothing short of visceral. she was a light that burned so intense but yet so brief. a huge loss to filmdom. don't miss this film. definitely worth a re-visit and definitely worth exposing to new generations that are unfamiliar with it. this release along with "rich and famous" with candace bergen and jacqueline bisset by warner home video truly signifies that they have recently hired some smart cookies at that company. nice to also see that both films are released in widescreen rather than full screen that that other film company called sony is so fond of doing. did i mention that i can't stand sony?
Movie Review: No better film on divorce and its affect on children Summary: 5 Stars
I was waiting for this film to come out on DVD. It's an exceptional movie with one of the finest performances by an adolescent that you will ever see.
Albert Finney and Diane Keaton star as the Dunlaps, a successful Marin County-living couple whose marriage falls apart. Dana Hill portrays Sherry, the oldest of their four daughters (a very young Tracey Gold, Tina Yothers and Viveka Davis round out the other children).
Sherry is old enough to see what is happening, but too young to handle the aftermath. I believe that a Washington Post critic at the time, said Ms. Hill's portrayal was the finest adolescent dramatic performance ever filmed. One would be hard pressed to argue that point.
Keaton and Finney were both nominated for Golden Globes. For the amazing dramatic peformances alone, this is a must-see. For the dead-on interpretation of the effects of divorce on the family dynamic, do yourself a favor and pick up this DVD.
Movie Review: Finally on DVD! Summary: 5 Stars
I agree, how wonderful it's finally on DVD. I was just watching my VHS and worried it was wearing out. What a brilliant film. It is NOT light viewing though. Well, there are light and humorous moments but it's a serious subject handled seriously. The writing, directing, and acting are uniformly excellent. Definitely one of the top 100 of all time, and in my book in the top 20. It just has not gotten the attention it deserves. Diane Keaton's best work, I think, and she has done some great work. Albert Finney's too. Thank you Alan Parker for making this film.
Movie Review: Let's not forget Dana Hill! Summary: 5 Stars
I totally agree with all the praise for Diane Keaton, Albert Finney & Alan Parker, but I just have to put in my two cents worth to mention the amazing work done by the late Dana Hill. She gives a performance that is so raw it just took my breathe away. I'm so glad I'm not the only person who remembers this movie, quite possibly the most underappreciate film EVER! Now if we can just get them to release Looking For Mr. Goodbar my Keaton collection will be complete!
Movie Review: Thank God it's Finally Here on DVD!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
One of my all-time Favorites! Like the previous viewer, I remember watching this film on HBO when it first came out. My family all moved to the SF Bay Area around that time and this movie holds a special place in my heart. I have been waiting for this to be released for years!! Albert Finney and Diane Keaton are masterful as usual in this film. This movie stirs all of the emotions. Another masterpiece by Sir Alan Parker. A must see if you haven't already...
