Movie Reviews of Shiva Rea - Yoga ShaktiMovie Review: Vinyasa Flow Sequences for Mid-level Yogis Summary: 4 StarsShiva's vinyasa flows in this video are of medium difficulty. There are four practices in total, each containing its own set of sequences. The sequences each focus on a specific body part, thereby allowing the viewer to pick and choose the course. Every practice is conducted in a manner true to any dedicated practitioner - mediation, dedication of practice, the practice itself and finally, savasana. Soothing instrumental music accompanies Shiva's verbal instructions on positions along with her guidance on breathing, which combine to build a rigorous workout.
Movie Review: One of the best... Summary: 4 StarsAn excellent DVD for those days when you would rather be "guided" through your yoga routine than practice it on your own.
The DVD is versatile in not only offering different flows such as the Surya namaskar, the Chandra namaskar, etc. but also allowing practitioners to make their own customized routine.
Shiva Rea has a gentle voice that creates the right atmosphere for practicing yoga. She is not into excessive narration (a welcome change from "chatty" yoga DVDs). She is inspiring in her powerful fluidity as she guides the viewer through various poses.
I like the fact that the DVD uses Sanskrit names for the poses though I can see why that might be a turnoff initially for those unfamiliar with the Sanskrit terms.
My one annoyance with the DVD is that it lacks a "quick start" feature. Once I get used to an exercise DVD, I like to get to the program with a single click. With this DVD, I have to click through several levels of menu before I can get started.
Aside from that minor gripe, I recommend this DVD highly. Definitely one of the best (and I own quite a few)...
Movie Review: I am going to wear this DVD out! Summary: 5 StarsThis is surely my favorite yoga DVD (of course I haven't gotten a crack at "Fluid Power" yet!) I've had it for over 2 years and I've yet to tire of it. I'm sure prior reviews have cheered the freedom of designing your own practice with the "matrix" already, and I mostly agree. Like others I would prefer the freedom to switch up the placement of the elements, but this is really not a huge gripe. If I truly want to do backbends and shoulder openers before the Warrier Dances, I can reset the program before shavasana kicks in.
I also appreciate the booklet accompanying the disc, as each flow segment is listed by name- but then accompanied by duration and description. This info obviously isn't up on the screen and it simplifies setting up the matrix. One gripe is that the flows are listed in the order they'd play straight through on the matrix, with no indication of which practice(s) they came from. It's easy enough to solve that yourself, though.
My booklet's been put to good use!
Movie Review: BUY THIS!!! Summary: 5 StarsI love this so much. It's really authentic. You get a good workout and a sense of peace all at the same time. I want to buy this for everyone I love!
Movie Review: Great Product, Great for tennis or other sports too! Summary: 5 StarsThis is a great product. I've used it for over a year now almost every day. It is a great part of my tennis training, I use the basic program as a warm-up and the other sequences on off days. I was a relative beginner to Yoga when I began using the disc, and I have been able to progress while remaining challenged. A must have for any yoga and sports enthusiast!
