Movie Review: WELCOME, SHIRLEY VALENTINE!

How wonderful that this is finally available on Region 1 DVD - I purchased the UK Region 2 edition some years ago, and it is one of my most-watched films. The big advantage of the Region 1 edition is the fact that it will issued on widescreen, whereas the UK copy is full-frame. Not sure if this is true, but it has been reported that "Shirley" is Queen Elizabeth's favorite. For anyone not familiar with the film, it is not to be missed, and Pauline Collins' Oscar-nominated performance is a revelation.Movie Review: Fantastic Movie

This has to be my all-time favorite movie. Pauline Collins and Tom Conti give brilliant performances. This movie has some of the best lines in any comedy/drama I've ever seen. I have watched this movie so many times I can't count, and have been enjoying it (I have VHS edition as well) since the 1980's. It is very funny, but touching too. This is a must-see, and though it may be considered a woman's movie, I know many men who have enjoyed it immensely because of the great lines and acting.Movie Review: A MUST SEE For Women

This film is a gem. From the start you feel as if Shirley is talking directly to you and the friendship is instant. She is funny, real, and wonderful. I know women who make this a yearly watch simply because it reminds you that dreams should be remembered and that we ought not lose ourselves, our soul's, our essence in the life journey. I love this film for oh so many reasons. The main theme haunts me and wish it were available as a CD.

This is one of the most wonderful stories of self actualization I have ever sen. It has humor, love, resentment, anger, regret, sadnesss, and finally redemption. Although many would consider this a "chick-flick", I think there is a lesson forus husbands too...keep the relationship alive and listen to your partener, she is far more complex than you realize. Relationships drift apart from lack of communication, so talk to eachother. That is the ultimate lesson of this heartwarming movie.Movie Review: great and realistic film

Great film, and shot in the first person. Shirley Valentine's story reflects the sometimes frustration of housewives who tire of being taken for granted by their husbands and children. However, it also shows how strong and independent Shirley really is and how she finally realizes this and finds herself again. Great film for those ladies who are secretly looking for adventure and want just one more chance and dream about taking it! Funny, quirky and so true at times!
