Movie Reviews of Shirley Valentine

Movie Review: A warm, bold and delightfull film
Summary: 5 Stars

You rarely come across such films, and those films which are very rare to hear about are considered the best ones. "Shirley Valentine", the film throws light on every ordinary woman's life, it throws light on the fact that even these women have dreams, even these women wish to make life large. The scenario of Greece is mesmerising, I was very much overwhelmed. Excellent chemistry between Tom Conti and Pauline Collins, she was very adorable in the role of Shirley. Its truely a beautifull film, perhaps words alone wont be able to describe this film. Thank you amazon.com once again.

Movie Review: Shirley Valentine
Summary: 5 Stars

It's an older movie with a timeless, universal message for women on how to get your 'groove back'! It takes place in London, Shirley is a spirited young woman who ultimately & happily marries, has the two kids, grows them up & in the process loses her identity & spirit. Along the way,her husband loses his sense of humor & zest for life & Shirley is reduced to talking to her kitchen wall. Her chance to regain her spirit comes when a girlfriend offers her a fortnight trip to Greece.
Shirley Valentine, is a poignant, intelligent & funny movie with a message for all.

Movie Review: Refreshing film
Summary: 5 Stars

I have loved this movie (and the one-woman play) since I first saw them. Pauline Collins is wonderful as the title character. Whether she is talking to the wall, her husband Joe or the neighbors blood hound - she is funny and insightful. She goes off on a fort-night's (2 week) holiday to Greece with her friend. She falls in love ... with the country. She frolics and lives and regains some of the frivolity of youth. And she gets to "drink wine in a country where the grape is grown."

The scenery of Mykonos is terrific and the cast top-notch.

Movie Review: reality
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this movie in 1989 - there is something for most women who have become less than themselves by taking care of everyone except themself. You can identify with the husband/wife , girlfriends and mother/child relationships. So if you need to get away - even though it is through Shirley - do it. This is a wonderful story of a 40'ish English woman who finds herself again - and has a good time on the way. I am so glad it is finally out in DVD - I have been looking for it for years.
I have to honestly say that this is my favorite movie!

Movie Review: A Must See for All Married Women
Summary: 5 Stars

Every woman who has a husband and children will relate to this film. You will find yourself saying "yes !! exactly !! how true !!" in every scene. Shirley Valentine will actually do what most women just dream about and you will find yourself cheering her along. It is the story of one woman who is a slave to her family, who are oblivious to her as a person (the only conversations she has are with the 'wall'!!). She decides to do something about her dreary life when she gets the opportunity to travel to Greece. A definite must see !!!!!
