Movie Reviews of Shattered

Movie Review: How far will you go to protect the ones you love?
Summary: 5 Stars

This 2007 psychological thriller is one of the most intriguing and suspenseful movies I've seen in a long time.

I like Pierce Brosnan and in my opinion this is one of his best films. This time he does not play the "hunk" that gets the girl, he plays the villain. If your looking for a love story, look somewhere else, this is not a "chick flick".

His character, Tom Ryan is a sociopathic kidnapper that nabs a three year old girl and then takes her parents (Maria Bello and Gerard Butler) on a wild venture to get her back. This movie is full of twists and turns and is very hard to review without giving away the entire plot. All I could say is you must see this movie and you won't be disappointed. You will look at your love and relationships in an entirely different way after seeing this, guarantied!

Movie Review: Great movie, unexpected plot twist
Summary: 5 Stars

From the moment the kidnapper pops up, I expected a fairly routine story. However, what we get is the opposite.

Nothing seems to make sense, the motive is a mystery, how far the guy will go is an unknown, the couple's options are nil, and the times when they try to gain the upper hand don't pan out, and make even less sense.

Each new turn in the film leaves you more and more desperate to figure out what in the heck is going on, just like the couple is feeling.

Even when it's near the end, at the cabin, it's not over. Not until they reveal it completely does it all make sense, and even then, there's still a couple of parts that I haven't figure out yet, but it's not the kind of movie I could watch again. Not because it wasn't great; it's just one of those that I only watch once.

Movie Review: The Game Of Life (And Death)...
Summary: 5 Stars

I love thrillers, especially when they keep me guessing right up to the end. SHATTERED is such a film. I would think I had it figured out, only to realize I had it all wrong. Neil (Gerard Butler) and his wife, Abby (Maria Bello from The Dark, A Hstory Of Violence) are taken hostage by a madman (Pierce Brosnan) who seems to know everything about their lives. The couple's young daughter has also been abducted separately. Neil and Abby are led through a series of career / life-destroying tasks by their new nemesis. However, appearances are very deceiving! SHATTERED has a unique pay-off that I never saw coming. Brosnan is exceptional in his ruthless role. I'm certainly not his biggest fan, but he's truly unhinged here. Hopefully, this movie will do for him what MR. BROOKS did for Kevin Costner. Check it out...

Movie Review: This is a must see!
Summary: 5 Stars

Overall I'm a pretty tough critic. For example, I thought Superbad and the last American Pie movie were two of the stupidest waste of 4 hours in 2007, yet they both got pretty good reviews. I'm also pretty tough when it comes to thrillers. You know, the ones with all fluff and no substance. Well let me tell you, Shattered, shattered my toughness and blew me away. It was THAT good.

From the beginning to the end, I was drawn in to the character's world, and really cared what happened to them. There are some subtle twists and some doozies. It's hard to get much more into it without giving the movie away. So I'll close with this. If you like suspense, if you like thrillers, if you like movies that make you go, "whoa!!!", then rent Shattered. Five stars hands down.

Movie Review: Well acted and full of suspense
Summary: 5 Stars

It's really shocking to see the diverging opinions on this movie. I'm voting with those who found it to be a well plotted, well acted, and suspense filled film. All three actors give amazing performances, but I would single out Gerard Butler who frankly is one of the most chameleon like performers I've come across in eons. I've seen several of his films now and marvel at his ability to truly dissolve into the characters he plays. His journey from callous corporate ladder climber to a man emotionally broken by deception, trickery, and sadistic manipulation is completely believable. Pierce Brosnan also does a great job of breaking out of type and playing a convincing sociopath (how come I never noticed his Irish accent before?). Definitely worth a view!
