Movie Reviews of Shanghai KnightsMovie Review: perfect in its own little nifty way Summary: 4 Stars
Shanghai Knights is a very interesting movie. Of course it could have been better....but come on, it could have been worse. I personally thought it was great just the way it was. It had humor, sword fights, fist fights, and great actors. Now, this movie made me a BIG fan of Aidan Gillen...he's great as Lord Rathbone. Of course Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson are spectacular too-as are the secondary characters. So, see this movie somehow. It's a great watch. (((the DVD is loaded with great extras: deleted scenes, audio commentary from the director and screen writers, a music video entitled "action overload", and a "fight manual"...a great buy)))
Movie Review: 4.5 stars: a fun swashbuckler. Summary: 4 Stars
Shanghai Knights is the sequel to the 2000 suprise hit Shanghai Noon. While probably not AS funny or original as it's predecessor, it's still a fun romp. Shanghai Knights is done in more of a swashbuckling mood than Noon. While much of the fighting in Noon involved guns, in Shanghai Knights, it mostly involves swords, and of course, kung fu. Shanghai Knights tells the story of Chon and Roy going to England in order to catch his father's murderer and stop the aforementioned murderer from eliminating the entire royal family. While most sequels fail (Spider-man 2, anyone?) this one just about captures the fun attitude and feel of the first one. Great fun for everyone.
Movie Review: A bowl of Fun Summary: 4 Stars
As an old Jackie Chan fan I was of course pleased to see him finally make his breakthrough in Hollywood with "Rush Hour" and "Shanghai Noon" some years ago, and I think highly of both movies.
But whereas the Rush Hour franchise has run on for too long, the tale of the two accidental western heroes is (as of yet) unspoiled. "Shanghai Knights" is funny, well produced, well acted, well actionpacked, generally well made, and, in my opinion, better than its predecessor "Shanghai Noon".
The jokes work, the action works, the plot works. In short: it works.
Highly recommendable.
Movie Review: Shanghai Morning Summary: 4 Stars
What's this? A sequel that's actually BETTER than the original? Well, such is the case with Shanghai Knights. Needless to say, I did like this show. Jackie Chan, though appearing in TOO many movies already, still impressed and amused me with his wacky fights. And Owen Wilson is hilarious. It'd been a long time since I laughed so frequently in a movie. While nothing spectacular as far as action-comedies go, Shanghai Knights has enough distinct action and comedy to keep it 90% entertaining. I'd never watch it again, of course, but it was fun while it lasted.
Movie Review: shanghai knights better than the first Summary: 4 Stars
shanghai knights is a great movie if you like comedy and action, but has a little less fight sequences than other jackie chan movies. although many of the fight clips are computer simulated this movie is still better than the first. my only major complaint is that most of the jokes center around the characters (jackie and owen) pretending to be nowaday famous people, ex: owen being sherlock holmes and a police detective name is sir arthur conan doyle. just a few jokes like that but overall a great movie.
