Movie Reviews of Shallow HalMovie Review: This is really something. Now this flick is quality!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Once this DVD comes out, I will get it as soon as possible because this movie is such a treat to watch. Funny as heck and will be added with pleasure to my collection at home. I remember watching this movie at a dollar theatre or as some of you might know as those theatres that play older movies that are about to be released on tape or dvd. Well I gotta tell you that it was worth more than a dollar to watch. If I paid 50 bucks to watch this flick I wouldn't even care. it's that good!!!! It is those types of movies that you will watch over and over and over again till your eyeballs can't take it anymore. that is why the five star rating is in effect. It deserves this much even more (i know it's being cliche but it does deserve that extra added 6 stars). Great movie! The story is great and well thought of, the romance between Jack Black and Gweneth is great chemistry. The comedic performances is top notch. This blows "Something about Mary" out of the water. After watching the movie it really made me think that woman are pretty in the inside. It would help if I had Hal's power. But you know what I mean. Once again great flick. I want more comedy movies to be like this one
Movie Review: I dont normally like comedies Summary: 5 Stars
This film was very impressive, It's about a slightly chauvanistic male who is shallow, and has lousy luck in relationships because of it. He gets hypnotised by a guru into seeing the inner beauty of people only, as a result he falls for a seriously obese woman who comes across as thin and beautiful to him, then the laughs start.
The main character does a smashing job as Hal injecting some depth to the character while still being very funny. The supporting cast are also great. It's a very funny film which also works as a touching romantic love story.
Some things i strongly admired about this film (besides the laughs) include the way Hal's shallowness was portrayed as a serious handicap, he would never have had the opportunity to get to know the sick kids, or meet his love or even get to know himself if it hadnt been for his luck in meeting the therapist/guru who brought down the shield. The inner beauty thing works both ways, thus the attractive nurse who is a scheming bitch, he sees as ugly. The soundtrack is pretty good too. Comedy is a difficult thing to do i think, it's great when it comes off well as in this film.
Movie Review: Farrelly Brothers Make Their Best Movie To Date Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen other films made by this duo of brothers and it is good to report that they are rising above bathroom level humor and are getting some heart and feeling into their work. Jack Black, who was wonderful as the record store employee in "High Fidelity," gives it all he's got as Shallow Hal, a really obnoxious guy at movie's start who is obsessed with physically perfect women. However, a self-help guru hypnotizes him into seeing people as they exist on the inside instead of the outside. Thus, a beautiful person on the inside looks the same on the outside to Hal and a vile woman on the inside, who is physically gorgeous, looks terrible on the outside to him too. Actually, after thinking about this premise, it seems to me that the world would be a far better and easier place to live in if we were all given this perceptual ability. Gwyneth Paltrow is the wonderful woman who is grossly overweight whom Hal romances. She does a great job in the role. However, Hal's absolute jerk of a best friend, ably played by Jason Alexander wearing the hairpiece from hell, does all in his power to return Hal to his shallow ways.
Movie Review: Great movie Summary: 5 Stars
I watched Shallow hal and I liked it a lot. It keeps the laughter and the irony perfectly balanced. Where you would feel the movie gets judgemental or shallow, as the title says, it hits you back in the face showing the real deal here. It is a difficult issue to deal with and to see a sparkling beauty like gwyneth portraying the role of a large girl is the perfect remedy for a lot of "shallow-thinking" people to get a different point of view. The movie holds a lot of truth and wisdom in it and manages to be really funny at the same time.(spoilerstuff) I absolutely got totally moved when Hal deals with his "real" perspective for instance when he walks in the care centre again. The message there is so strong and will really set a lot of thinking to the term: real beauty. Reaching the end of the movie I thought to myself; now this movie will do a visionchange for Hal where he sees all these large people and etc just turn beautiful again. I was happily surprised when it didn't happen. Great fun, good acting, great movie!!!
Movie Review: ENDEARING!! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is superbly endearing and charming! the bad: I HATED Jason Alexander's character; and I also hated the "nurse Diesel" type nurse who was nothing more than a shriveled-up old sourpuss (and what was that scene in the car where her & Rosemary were talking? She was gorgeous in THAT scene, but not when Hal saw her! whazzupwidthat???)
the good: Hal was SO likeable, even as a jerk! (but I'm a big fan of Jack & Tenacious D-I even saw them in concert in Bham Alabama in '02); K.G. was gratuitously included in a small part; Gwynneth was actually kinda sweet in this one; I LOVED Rosemary's parents!; Leeboy was SO fat-yet-adorable!; they really did an awesome job of making the Ralph character look ugly and dorky, he is in fact a VERY gorgeous man!; Tony Robbins really did an excellent job!; Brooke Burns did an AWESOME job as both the beautiful AND ugly Katrina!; the scene in the hospital toward the end, where Hal finally sees what's wrong with little Cadence, brings tears and chills! JUST GET IT-GET IT-GET IT!!
