Movie Reviews of Sexy Beast

Movie Review: VERY SEXY INDEED!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was loving this film all the way through, non-stop gangster style! I have always thought Ray Winstone was the 'Main Man' of cockney gangster films ( remember 'Love, honour and obey', 'Nil by mouth') and teamed up with Ben Kingsley you can't go wrong.
As a retired gangster living in the Costa da sol he's got it all beautiful wife ( Amanda Redman) beautiful house, beautiful weather, until one day his past catches up with him,Ben Kingsley as the blast from the past. I don't want to go on about the film as it worth watching it for yourself to see just how hard it is to say 'no'. The tension just explodes off the screen once Ben Kingsley is on the scene, and it has to be said that Kingsley is so convincing as Don that you actually start hating him from the moment his name is mentioned. So much so you want to kill the man yourself! Ian Mcshane has a small role, I have never really liked him but he pulls this one off quite well. You can't go wrong with this, top acting, top dialogue, top notch plot! The title doesn't do this much justice, but it is definately one of the best of the British, highly underated. Get your dose of cockney gangsters because I did, and was loving every minute of it. No wonder they're going crazy for it on release in the states, check it out, you'll be sorry you never Guv!

Movie Review: flawless
Summary: 5 Stars

Complaints about this film reveal only a lack of sophistication. I don't mean to say that I understand this film completely--it's hard enough to understand the English--but if you bring your brain to your seat (and leave "Gandhi" at the door, or you'll spend the whole film thinking, "Why is Gandhi so mean, mama?"), this movie will have it fizzing for days afterward.

Kingsley's Don Logan, from the moment he hits the screen amid thrashing punk bass fuzz, is a villain to match Anthony Hopkins's Hannibal Lecter for absolute terror--and he's twice the badass. The movie is worth seeing for Kingsley's mindblowingly intense performance. It is the most complete immersion of actor into character I have seen other than Malcolm MacDowell as Alex in "A Clockwork Orange."

... The man-rabbit, from whom Winstone's Gal Dove spends the whole movie trying to escape, is the sexy beast--the horrible promise of riches and fame and glory and heightened virility--all those things he knows will destroy him but are still irresistible. In the end, that beast, and Kingsley, the incarnation of the beast, are exiled--buried beneath Gal's pool.

See? It just takes a few minutes of thought, and thought is much better spent on this movie than anything Spielberg has ever done. See this film. It's mind candy.

Movie Review: The best movie I've seen so far this year
Summary: 5 Stars

But then I haven't seen them all. Now that I have your attention...from the opening notes of The Stranglers' "Peaches" playing on the soundtrack in the first scene, this movie grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go. Other reviewers have given you the plot. There are a couple of things that jumped out at me while watching this movie. First, it is cinematic! It is beautiful to watch. Each scene is carefully composed--not the usual TV-style mere framing of people speaking or doing something we so often see today. Second, it didn't fall prey to the Hollywood sinkhole of trying to throw a plot around young, sexy, thin people who look nothing like anyone you know. The women in this film are not thin, not young, but are able to radiate sexuality and power. The male supporting actors as well contribute mightily to the power of Ben Kingsley's character. Hey, don't they call this stuff "acting?" Well, it's done brilliantly by every actor in this movie. Third, "Sexy Beast" manages to be menacing AND funny. I wasn't sure if it was a thriller or a black comedy. And I don't care! I loved it! Go see it if you like movies that are just a bit outside.

Movie Review: INTENSE
Summary: 5 Stars

Just watched Sexy Beast for about the 20th time. I saw it when it first was released on DVD because it never made it to the theaters in my area even though it was critically acclaimed. I don't think it is overstating that this movie is nearly flawless. From the musical score to the direction, the character study, the acting, everything is simply fantastic. Ben Kingsley is one of the most menacing villians to ever grace the screen and like nothing you have ever seen before. And the funny thing is Ian McShane is equally as menacing and evil as Teddy Bass in a totally different way. The story is great and the dialogue is at times hilarious but also emotional, intelligent and sometimes scarey. This is one movie I can watch over and over and with the surround sound on the musical score and soundtrack is awesome. I recommend this movie to anybody and everybody. Ray Winstone is funny as hell as Gel and is exceptional and has great range in showing all the sides of Gel as he is being the loving husband, the menaced victim of Don Logan and also as he carries thru with his task under the watchful and critical disbelieving cunning eye of Mr. Black Magic himself...Teddy Bass.

Movie Review: Men or Women? Definitely! This is BritFilm Gangster Thriller at it's Best!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this movie and the music! It is all awesome. What's the matter with some of you blokes? It is a well done English/ Irish Gangster movie. The dialoge is superb! Some of you English blokes are all bent out of shape. I wonder why? I am from England me-self, but have lived in LA for 8 years.
What makes this movie so great are the characters themselves. The movie is a shocker too! That is whay I like it. Maybe I am some kind of pillock! I don't know. I just love real life indie movies like this one. You have to love Stan Higgins and Teddy Bass...and then Harry, the Chairman of Imperial Emblatt. Let's not forget about the huge house of Bishops Road.
You have to love and appreciate the BritFilm quality and zanyness of this UK indie flick! Don Logan masterfully plays a guy we have all probably known at least once in our lifetime. The way he disses Gal, over and over is so hilarious!! Then on the Airplane!! It is all wonderfully Politically Incorrect at it's best. If you did not like this film the first time; watch it a couple more times.
One must eventually appreciate this film as a masterfully done work of art. Cheers Dirk-David
