Movie Reviews of Seven Years in Tibet

Movie Review: Disturbing but beautiful depiction of the plight of the Tibetan people.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Chinese genocide of the Tibetans is one of the most disgusting and disturbing events in modern history, on par with the Nazi treatment of the Jews. This is doubled by the fact that the western powers did and are doing nothing as members of an ancient civilisation dedicated to spiritual practice are exterminated by the chinese.
There are those who will deny this fact, if you are that ignorant then do not watch this film and write pathetic, twisted comments.
If you are more of a human being then you will enjoy this film. Far from perfect, the depictions of what Lhasa once looked like before the Chinese invasion are breath taking. The film shows Tibetan Buddhist monks being shot in cold blood by Chinese soldiers. This is shocking as it should be. This is what happened to thousands of monks in 6,400 monasteries. In the words of the Dalai Lama, 1,200,000 Tibetans have died as a direct result of Chinese occupation policies.
If you view this film and enjoy it, you might want to read of the plight of Tibet by the Dalai Lama himself. 'My Land and my People,' is an excellent book.

Movie Review: A soul -soothing movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

The movie catches your attention at the first chapter when Pitt made his first appearance.I believe he show a very obvious arrogance toward his pregnant wife and does not seem to care at all as a husband.but when come to the middle in the movie,he start to change as news of divorce come to him.and not to say that the tibet scence was stunningly colourful and brilliant as deliver by this dvd technology.this picture has it all adventure, trill in the pow prison as pitt made 4 unsuccessful escape, the beautiful camera pan across Himalayas scence was awsome, and the war zone of terror when the Chinese Army took over tibet was simply carefully shot.as this picture can double up as a eye opener for us as we learnt about a culture that closed entirely to foreigner.this film simply deliver al the trill, mysterious religion in tibet, the beauty of the highest mountain in the world.a must have for lover of beauty and a glism of other distant culture and religion.Truly a fiver star

Movie Review: New respect for Brad Pitt
Summary: 5 Stars

I watched this movie for the first time when it was released in the theaters -- at that time I thought it was good, but not great. Since then, I've had a chance to attend an event in which the Dalai Lama spoke, and have come to see this movie in a new light. The story of the personal transformation of Harrar is uplifting and inspiring. I was moved by the tenderness between the young Dalai Lama and Heinreich Harrar. I used to be one of those that thought Brad Pitt was more suited to roles in "teen movies," but seeing "Seven Years in Tibet" proved me wrong. He has a depth in his acting that I didn't realize before. He portrayed Harrar with sophistication and complexity. He showed the arrogant, selfish side of his character with equal believability as his portrayal of the tenderness and grief Harrar must have felt in his growing love for his friends in Tibet.

Movie Review: Seven Years in Tibet
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the most heartwarming films about Tibet and H.H. The Fourteenth Dalai Lama that I've seen. It shows H.H. as a little boy, learning to be what he was born again to be. The Dalai Lama.

Brad Pitt plays an Austrian mountain climber and through a chain of events ends up in Tibet. The Dalai Lama as a boy was enthralled by these western men and a lifetime friendship evolved.

This is not just a "chic flick." It's a film with some of the most magnificent beauty, as well as a direct message involving the current, ongoing tyranny of the Red Chinese who took Tibet away from the Tibetans.

Buy it, you won't be sorry. Especially if you have a pension for injustice.

Movie Review: A Wonderful Film
Summary: 5 Stars

Seven Years in Tibet is one of my favorite movies of all time (next to The Godfather). The photography is beautiful and the story engaging. The fact that it may not be historically accurate doesn't take away the enertainment value.

Brad Pitt gives a fine performance, (he does a pretty good Austrian accent,) and this is saying a lot considering I've never been a huge fan. I believe part of what made this movie so engaging was its location. Tibet being such a secluded place, and Lhasa even more so, the depiction of it before oppression by the Chinese gave me a better understanding of just what was lost.

I'd recommend this movie to anyone.
