Movie Reviews of Sense & Sensibility (Special Edition)Movie Review: Sense & Sensibility Summary: 5 StarsI love this movie. I watch it at least 5 times per year or more; it's one of my all time favorites. The acting, the setting, the story is superb. Can't say enough about Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet.
Movie Review: Bravo Summary: 5 StarsIt is great and the name Austine speaks for itself as a quality film and the bbc did a great job in producing a master piece.
Movie Review: An "interpretation" of the book, but I still love it Summary: 5 StarsThe liberties this movie takes with the book are numerous, Hugh Grant is too charming & too good looking to portray Edward, Emma Thompson is way too old to be Elinor, it omits the scene with a contrite Willoughby...I could go on & on, yet the film works. I think it captures much of the spirit of Austen's book, if not exactly faithful to her words. I think the one thing the movie perhaps cannot convey or which falls a bit short is the Lucy Steele/Edward connection. In the book, it is quite obvious that Lucy is only interested in Edward for his position and money. Hugh Grant plays a charming, handsome, likable Edward whom Lucy might really have loved. A large part of Elinor's story is missed by downplaying Lucy & her awareness of Elinor as a rival. I missed that aspect. However, Thompson's screenplay is engaging & funny and sweet and though I typically despise adaptations of my favorite books, I loved this movie and bought the DVD.
Movie Review: Jane would have approved Summary: 5 StarsThere's not much to say about this movie that hasn't already been said over and over in these reviews. I'd like to add that I think Jane Austen would have approved of the little bits and pieces that Emma Thompson added to the original story in writing the screenplay. She seems to have captured the essence of Austen's wry sense of humor. Be sure to to watch Emma Thompson's Golden Globe acceptance speech which is one of the extras on this DVD. It's written as if Jane herself were observing the evening's events and it's incredibly clever.
Movie Review: A beautiful film Summary: 5 Stars
'Sense and Sensibility' is a timeless classic by Jane Austen, and it's a miracle that it could be adapted so well into a film. I highly recommend this compelling drama.
