Movie Reviews of Sense & Sensibility Collector's Set (Sense & Sensibility 2008 / Miss Austen Regrets / Persuasion 2007)Movie Review: it can't get any better than this Summary: 5 StarsThis is by far, the best sense and sensibility, ever. Yes better than the version with Hugh Grant. The acting, casting, visual aspects of the film are far superior. This would have made a worthy film
The latest collect of JA dvds are in all - the very best.
miss austen regrets, is far better than Becoming Jane. and the compentary that follows now replaces my casette of the life of Jane Austen.
Movie Review: Love Jane Austen Summary: 5 StarsThe novels of Jane austen are timeless, and I love them. The British remakes of these books and films are wonderful. All three of the films were well done. I have other Persuasion and Sense and Sensibility movies. The new ones are comparable to these older ones. I am more partial to the Persuasion with Cyrian Hinds in but the newer one did wonderful credit in itself. Thank you BBC
Movie Review: Persuasion Summary: 5 StarsI have seen (I believe) every screen adaptation of Jane Austen's novels and loved them all, but the 2007 adaptation by the BBC starring Sally Hawkins is my favorite. I thought this film was impeccably done. The acting, directing, costumes, art direction, pacing - all impeccable.
I have been surprised by the many reviewers who didn't like the running scene or the kiss. I felt both were perfectly done, and here's why: a good story is one of conflict and resolution. Poor Anne, called upon repeatedly to be the dutiful daughter, went through one frustration after another while trying to re-connect with Captain Wentworth - her personal story was repeated conflict with no resolution. By the end, when she had made up her mind that no amount of persuasion would prevent her from breaking free of the social roles imposed on her, she literally RAN from them and to the man she loved... it was an act that was at once bold, out of character, and wrong for her times. It showed the depth of her need. I thought it was a stroke of directorial (or screenplay?) genius, and the powerful piano accompaniment was perfectly suited to it.
As far as "the kiss" : Hey, she waited eight years for that kiss, she wasn't going to just rush through it. Would you? I thought it was one of the most tender moments I've ever seen on film.
If you've ever been involved in a love that was tentative and unsure, and you remember that desperate yearning, that aching that you felt before things were ultimately resolved, then you will be moved to tears by the last five minutes of this film.
Movie Review: Delightful movies Summary: 5 StarsI watched Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion on PBS, but had missed the showing of Miss Austen Regrets. When I saw that all three were in one package for a great price, I jumped at the chance. This is my favorite version of Sense and Sensibility and I really enjoyed Miss Austen Regrets. I thought it would be more of a documentary, but it was quite engaging - along the lines of Becoming Jane. There is an audio version of a documentary on the DVD as well. It is at least an hour long. There is a good amount packed into one package!
Movie Review: Must-see! Summary: 5 StarsWe're huge fans of the A&E production of "Pride & Prejudice" so we were thrilled when we learned that the same producers had created this collection. It is everything we were hoping for-- superb acting, breathtaking settings and a riveting Jane Austen storyline.
