Movie Reviews of Secretary

Movie Review: What a pleasant surprise!
Summary: 5 Stars

I rented this movie with little hope. Although I've enjoyed James Spader in the past (Sex, Lies And Videotape, for instance), this move looked like a crappy erotic N'Synch daydream about "Ooh, sexretaries!" Ick!

However, I was utterly entranced and delighted by this movie. I was so entranced, that I watched it once, and then promptly watched it a second time. James Spader was utterly captivating. He was unbelievably sexy, dark, and oddly sweet. I didn't love Crash but this movie has restored my faith in someone that I have considered to be an excellent actor for many years.

Maggie Gyllenhaal (who is the main character as Lee) was adorable from the start and watching her growth through the movie is amazing. She starts as a lonely, odd, sweet girl who clearly doesn't have any idea where she fits in the world. As the relationship between Mr. Gray (James) and Lee grows into an incredibly intimate blend of needs (hers and his), Lee begins to become simply and completely self-aware. Although she is the submissive half of the SD couple, you see that she is also, in many ways, the stronger half. She wields an enormous amount of control in her submissive form.

I found this move to be oh so sexy, joyous, sweet, and completely bewitching.

Movie Review: One Of (If Not The) Greatest Movies Ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

I will not get to much into the plot or a bio on the movie Secretary. I'm guessing you all know pretty much all about that by now. But I will tell you what I got from this movie. Secretary was by far one of the best movies I have watched in a very long time if not ever. I've found myself to be a huge fan of Maggie Gyllenhaal & James Spader... Although I have been a huge fan of James Spader from movies like Stargate, The Stickup, Tuff Tuff, Crash, and many others... I left this movie with a lot of things. But the biggest one was a new huge curiosity of the BDSM lifestyle. I've never been curious of alternate lifestyles or relationships until seeing this movie, or maybe I have and this movie has just brought it to light. For whatever the reason I know I'm now very much so attracted to the lifestyle. This movie has actually given me a true representation of this lifestyle, almost a look on the inside in ways.. I have now looking back on the movie and knowing what I know now about the lifestyle found a lot of the movie to be true look at this hidden or somewhat unknown culture and lifestyle. I for one thank Steven Shainberg for his directing in this great movie and give it 2 thumbs up. A must in any great dvd collection.

Movie Review: absolutely delightful film
Summary: 5 Stars

This film could have been third class perverted semi-porn movie. But the director Steven Shainber did great job in turning a bit perverted material-sadism and masochism-into absolutely funny and cute love story. Although the movie deals with somewhat irregular sexual issues, it is never erotic or disgusting. The reason, I suppose, is truthfulness and purity of the characters.
Maggie Gyllenhaal(Lee) did stunning work in playing a very pure, yet unconventional, female secretary. Lee looks somewhat dumb and weak to her desire, but at least she is uncontaminated by the outside world and true to her feelings. The way she tries to seduce James Spader is quite adorable.
James Spader also proved that he is a great actor. Mr. Gray (Spader) is slightly deviated from the normal person, but still he is greatly attractive man. How he heals the wounds of Lee and how he resists her seduction induces laughter from the audiences.
This film is never typical and never normal, yet it shows the true feelings of the human beings. This film depicts physical attraction, yet it show what real love is.
I absolutely recommend this film to everybody and I guarantee that anyone who sees this film will like it.

Movie Review: Excellent and Must See!
Summary: 5 Stars

What an original movie that deals with sex, sadism, and masochism at its best! The quality of the film and its concept is excellent! It's the story of a young woman named Lee Halloway and her boss Mr. E. Edward Grey who unexpectedly ,but purposely find themselves practicing these tabooed sexual rituals. Lee Halloway is the sadist and her boss of course, enjoys inflicting pain, mentally, emotionally and physically. They're romps together in the office are classic and extremely erotic. Lee eventually finds love with her boss and he realizes that he's found exactly what he's looking for. He's finally found someone to tame that sexual masochistic appetite that's been aching him. The cinematography is beautiful at the end and Gyllenhaal's body is in perfect form. I have no trouble seeing James Spader as America's most wanted man after this movie. The soundtrack is great too; it should be Angelo Badalamenti had a lot to do with it. This movie is original and fantastic, it will easily find its way into every lover's movie collection. You'll also find yourself quoting the movie "One scoop of creamed potatoes. A slice of butter. Four peas. And as much ice cream as you'd like to eat," like I do.

Movie Review: Odd yet Wonderful
Summary: 5 Stars

I shied away from seeing this movie after I read a description of what it was about. Then I read some rave reviews and overcame my initial trepidation. I know that James Spader, one of my favorite actors, often chooses odd vehicles to showcase his talents, so I decided to give the movie a chance.

I am glad that I did because it was well worth viewing, in my opinion. Strange? yes. Disturbing? yes. Pornographic? no. It is a funny and oddly tender movie...a different kind of love story. But because it is different, is it wrong? I don't think so.

There is a lot of emotional pain in this movie, shown brilliantly by Maggie Gyllenhaal's character, Lee (just out of a mental hospital), who goes to work for the emotionally closed-off lawyer, E. Edward Grey (Spader), a man with many fetishes, obviously an odd duck. Before long, Lee has become the object of one of these fetishes...and she finds herself excited more than she has ever been.

These odd and needy characters are presented as sympathetic and we come to care about them as the movie unfolds. They establish a slowly built, fragile relationship that we may not understand, but the filmmaker does, and he portrays it in a sensitive and caring manner.
