Movie Reviews of Seabiscuit (Full Screen)Movie Review: Surprised myself by really liking it! Summary: 5 Stars
I did not want to watch this movie. I mean an old story about some horse? Didn't sound like my kind of movie. But it was a family gathering and I would have been considered rude if I had left, so I stayed and reluctantly started watching. WOW...I am so glad that I did. This story of a heartbroken (rich) father, an excentric horse trainer, a lonely but persistent jockey and Seabiscuit (the little horse that could), will break your heart first and then raise your spirits! Even if you don't consider yourself a history buff, and you don't like horses, by the end of this movie you will be at the edge of your seat yelling "GO SEABISCUIT GO!!!" I don't know quite how they did it, but this movie will reel you in. Perhaps it is Tobey Maguire and his beautiful smile and incredible acting. He makes you feel lonely, and hurt and skeptical, but then courageous and hopeful and brave! Or maybe it's the way Jeff Bridges plays the heartfelt, nice "father figure" who never gives up on Seabiscuit or Maguire. Whatever it is , it works. Watch this movie, you will love it!
Movie Review: Not your usual horse story Summary: 5 Stars
Although I like horses, and have been to a few local horse races, neither are subjects I'm particularly exited about. As a voracious reader, the book held little or no interest to me. But my husband saw the movie when he was out of town, loved it and highly recommended it. I first bought the book and had barely started it - but was enjoying it - when the opportunity came for me to buy the DVD. We are in our mid 50s and are not ones to watch TV late at night. We are also not huge movie-goers or renters. We put this in at midnight and I was completely enthralled from the beginning. Not only that but afterwards we were wanted to know more and watched several of the bonus features, finally giving up and going to bed at 3:00 AM. This was such an enjoyable movie - one about second chances not only for a broken horse but for three broken men. I highly recommend this movie especially for those who are tired of the sex and violence which sweem to run rampant in many films today. I am now off to finish reading the book.
Movie Review: Pull Away Winner! Summary: 5 Stars
What an awesome movie! The historical insets which give the movie its historical context are just fantastic to set the mood for a second chance winner. Jeff Bridges is superb in his role, the character seems to fit his personna so well, smooth and yet energetic and passionate. Chris Cooper does an equally admirable performance as the remarkable trainer Tom Smith and Tobey Macguire as Red Pollard is very good. This real story captivates and motivates since it's about the underlying potential in everyone to achieve, while others just want to suppress. Howard is such a case, and sees this in a trainer, a horse and a jockey, after finding it in his own crumbling life. The cineamotography and music are excellent and fit the storyline snugly. This is one to be watched multiple times.
Movie Review: A study in life for the whole family Summary: 5 Stars
This film is one of the best to come out of the entertainment industry in decades. It tells a story of a small horse who brings excitement, pride and determination to a nation put on its knees by a great depression. This film will wrench your heart with the tragedies of life, but also warm you with laughter and knowledge that even in the toughest of times, we always find a way to survive and prosper. It is a great story for younger people because the message contained in the story is told without reverting to the titilating themes of excess violence, sex and nudity, murder and mayhem. Amazing that life can be fully lived and experienced and a story can be told without having to succumb to the taudry.
Movie Review: For Horse Lovers Summary: 5 Stars
This is my all time favorite horse movie! I will never see it enough. Since it's based on a true story, the history behind the story is fascinating. But it's the little guy winning that makes the movie. The owner suffering the loss of his son, the trainer suffering the loss of his way of free range life, the jockey suffering the loss of his family and the horse suffering from the mistakes of other men. Together they heal each other and create a bond for life.
