Movie Reviews of Scrooge

Movie Review: Excellent version, and a good print of it
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the most beautiful adaptations, and keeps to the heart of Dickens (unlike the unnecessarily visious Alastair Sim version, or the downright wierd Reginald Owen version.) Sir Seymour Hicks really captures Scrooge's character as written in the original novelette.

This print is very good, the best I have seen in a while, and includes scenes usually editted out that really add to the atmosphere of the movie. The sound is also excellent- most of the prints I have seen lately have the soundtrack going too fast, and this one is fine. There are a couple of dark spots, but considering the other prints out there, the majority of the print is excellent, and this DVD is a good print to have for years to come.

Movie Review: Image Entertainment edition is the only edition worth buying!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Image Entertainment edition of this film is complete and uncut. When I first saw the edited version of this film I noticed that the Ghost of Christmas Present said to Scrooge regarding Tiny Tim, "Well, if he be like to die had not he better do it, to decrease the surplus population?"
The ghost was quoting something that Scrooge had said earlier, but the earlier quote was cut from the print I saw, which listened the impact of the ghost's comments. So I urge people not to settle for the many incomplete editions of the film that have circulated for years, because the cuts ruin the film. The complete film as it appears in the Image Entertainment edition is a fine version of the Dickens classic.

Movie Review: The oldest Scrooge film available.
Summary: 5 Stars

Having suffered through the butchered VHS version, this was a joy to behold. Well worth buying. Very interesting to see the low tech version of the ghost of Jacob Marley!

Movie Review: Very good version of A Chistmas Carol
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a very good early film version of the Dickens classic, I would recommended to any Dickens and old black & white films fan.

This movie would have made Charles Dickens proud. It is the best. I recommend it to anyone who likes classic Christmas movies!!
