Movie Reviews of Scream Theater Double Feature, Vol. 2: The Last Slumber Party/Terror at Tenkiller

Movie Review: Some Slasher Horror, Oklahoma Style and More!!
Summary: 4 Stars

First of all, yes there really is a Lake Tenkiller that is a popular destination for fisherman and campers. Now, being a huge fan of horror films, I can't say I would feel too comfortable bedding down in a Jason-Friendly camper at a lake named Tenkiller. And with a cool name like Tenkiller, you have to wish a better horror film would have used the name in it's title as opposed to "Terror at Tenkiller". There is actually almost no terror involved. A more apt title might have been "Tedium at Tenkiller" or "Some Annoyance at Tenkiller". The overall story isn't bad, but the execution (pun intended) is just awful. A girl running away from an abusive relationship unfortunately catches the eye of the local psychopath. It's a neat departure on the usual teens-in-peril-from-masked-killer type horror flick, but there really isn't any suspense or horror found here becuase the movie's pace is sooooo slooowww.
The real treat for me though was the second film on the disk, "The Last Slumber Party". This movie was just amazing in it's stupidity. Truly you have to see it to believe it. There is just so much in this movie to goof on! The bad 80's hair metal, the dinner-theater level acting, the witty banter of the middle aged teens. If you think a guy wearing surgeons scrubs carrying a bloody scalpel as he walks toward the camera is scary, then this movie will terrify you!! I am not kidding when I say, they used this same shot of the would-be slasher slowly moving toward the camera holding out the scalpel at least 10 times!! The object of the slasher's attention in this movie is a doctor (we know this becuase he wears his scrubs everywhere!! In the hospital, at home, at the local Kwik-E-Mart) and the doctor's family, who live in a house whose interior decorating had to have been done by a blind man. The one special effect in the film is a blood squirting scalpel, and that only works about half the time! Usually the slasher will be drawing the fake scalpel across someone's gullet only to have it start squirting about 1/2 way across??!!! There really are some true belly-laughs with this one. The wide eyed slasher (who happens to also be the writer/director) is just too damn funny! His "sneaking" around is extraordinary!! In one scene he runs into the house may 3 steps in front of the heroine, who fails to see him, even though we viewers can clearly see him as he runs across the screened in porch!! I guess the closer you are to the screen, the harder it is to see in? I could go on and on with this movie, it's just too dumb for words, but so damn enjoyable because of it! If you like bad movies, then this is like the "Citizen Kane" of awful cinema.
If you are looking for real scares, avoid this disk. I can't tell you earnestly enough, these movies are BAD, just AWFUL! But, if you are like me and enjoy the "So Bad They're Good" type of film, then make sure you pick this up for "Last Slumber Party".
