Movie Reviews of Scent of a WomanMovie Review: Pacino Shines Summary: 5 Stars
Scent of a Woman, a 1993 Academy Award Nominee for Best Picture, is about a friendship that builds between two opposite people, the blind retired Lt. Colonel Frank Slade and the prep school student Charlie Simms, during a wild weekend in New York City. Both are coming to a crossroads in their lives. Charlie has to decide whether he will tell on who played a practical joke on the school's headmaster. But his future is lying in midst of it. And Lt. Colonel Frank Slade, once an aide to Former President Lyndon Johnson, now blind, is considering taking his own life. Their friendship grows, and although I don't want to give too much away, I'll say that I was satisfied with the ending.Al Pacino's performance in this was stellar, and have many others have mentioned, won him his first Best Actor Oscar. Great film which will undoubtedly be enjoyed by many for years to come.
Movie Review: Pacino does it again !!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
HOOOOOO WA!!! I'm the biggest Al Pacino fan and I own all his DVDs including this one. This film goes beyond his normal mobster/ cops roles and portrays him as a desperate lonely blind man at the end of his rope. Chris O' Donnell who I think was made famous by this film, helps Pacino discover the beauties of life. Watch this film and you will see how brilliant Pacino is. It will move you and inspire you a million times over. I watched this film 100s of times so many times i cant remember. Its so perfect. Watch it and be amazed. Hollywood finally finally after 20 some odd years and 7 Oscar nominations gave Pacino his well deserved Oscar for Best Actor in 1993. I think he should have won for The Godfather in 1972 but its all good. This film showed some of his greatest acting. AL PACINO IS THE GREATEST ACTOR IN THE WORLD!!!!!! BUY THIS MOVIE AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN !!!
Movie Review: Al Pacino's Best!! Summary: 5 Stars
I remember when I visited New York City for my birthday in March,1992 that I had the opportunity to catch the film crew from this movie shooting a scene with the Ferrari down Fifth Avenue. When this movie came out I went to see it and enjoyed the film tremendously. Al Pacino delivered in his role of Lt. Col. Frank Slade. The same can be said about Chris O'Donnell as a caretaker college student, Charlie Simms. The relationship between these two get off to a shaky start but as the movie progresses things get better. The big surprise is a Thanksgiving weekend in New York unknown to Simms.A weekend at the Waldorf Astoria, a visit to Frank's estranged brother and of course the tango scene. I saw this movie again recently and it gets better every time. This is the movie that will make you say "Hoo-hah" at the end! You'll enjoy this!
Movie Review: One of the Best Films of the 90s Summary: 5 Stars
Certain times studios "create" a role so an actor can win an oscar. Such a movie is this. No one but Al Pacino could have done this role. Chris O'Donnell was destined to become a major player in this star making role. All performances are excellent. The direction is evenly paced, and the story has several complications and conflicts throughout. Who-ah! I'm really suprised that didn't become a catch phrase because it certainly is catchy. This character study is complex. There are layers upon layers in this story that could have taken a more safe route but instead goes risky and challenging. A powerful movie with strong performances. Worth watching a couple of times to catch all the complexities of the characters.
Those offended by course language be prepared. It is full of "colorful language."
Movie Review: I'd buy the movie for the disciplanary hearing speech alone! Summary: 5 Stars
Different movie...quite an unexpected, albeit analogous role for Pacino. He's a master, no doubt, but what brought me to tears wasn't the 'near death scene' at his suicide attempt, but his stirring speech before the disciplinary committee. THIS type of speeches make history! All the other stuff may or may not happen--the facts would vary, of course, but the strength of the movie are the underlying principles that make life worth living. Not being melodramatic, just a tad bit jealous that a person put them into words so well, and that another person internalized them so masterfully as to make them sound...infallible...despite, or against all else.
GREAT show. Not the action flicks I'm used to, but nonetheless satisfying on a deeper philosophical level. A definite recommend!
