Woody, Woody my funny, quirky, nerdy Woody Allen what the heck are you doing within one hundred miles of a shopping mall. In L.A. no less. Get back to New York on the fastest means of transportation possible even if you have to hitch hike. Bette Midler can do shopping malls, with Richard Drefuss maybe, but not with Woody. By the way if one really watches what goes on in the average shopping mall one would realize that there is no time for marriage counselling, serious dinner and dancing or movie theather sex or any other kind of self-help therapy as portayed here. Or any inclination to do such things. The deal is shop until you drop. Tunnel vision is the required virtue here. If you want to see Woody where he lives watch the films Manhattan or Annie Hall. If you want to watch Bette where she lives watch Down and Out in Beverly Hills or The Rose. Don't watch this one.

She's a best-selling pop psychologist; he's a high-powered sports lawyer. Together, they're the perfect '90s couple! During a shopping spree in an upscale mall, this Beverly Hills duo's seemingly happy marriage takes an outlandish turn for the worse when they try to work out some of their marital differences -- and it ends up costing them lots more than they bargained for. You'll cash in on a great deal of fun when you check out this hilarious adventure about marriage, infidelity, and bargain shopping!When director Paul Mazursky is good, he's a keen social observer capable of stinging satire. And when he's bad, he makes movies like this bizarre curiosity. A Los Angeles couple (the improbably paired Woody Allen and Bette Midler) head for the mall on their anniversary to do some shopping and, among other things, wind up revealing marital infidelities and having sex with each other in a movie theater. Aside from the idea of the neurotic Allen visiting a mall, there is surprisingly little entertainment value here. Both actors exert serious effort to impart a humorous spin to some of the most pretentious and tedious dialogue in recent memory. The whole thing is like a lengthy marriage counseling session, minus the counselor. Can this marriage be saved? By the end, you'll be wondering, who cares? --Marshall Fine
