Movie Reviews of Saturday Night Live - Best of Alec BaldwinMovie Review: Hire Baldwin FULL TIME Summary: 5 Stars
Let's be honest. SNL just isn't funny anymore. The writing stinks and the guest stars are usually no-talent flash-in-the-pans. Plus Phil Hartman is still gone... But that's okay, because every now and then Alec Baldwin drops by to do some charity work. Ever since his first appearance in 1990, he has consistently shown his true talent for comedy, and often by playing characters against type. I've often thought that had Alec been born 50 years earlier, he would have been one of the great silver screen legends. As it is, he comes across as an actor who, on the verge of superstardom, decided it was more fun to just be a goofball. I firmly believe two decisions completely altered the course of his career. The first, when he turned down (or, as rumor has it) was pushed off of "Patriot Games", the sequel to the brilliant "The Hunt for Red October", and the second being the day he decided to make "The Shadow". Of course, Harrison Ford took over "Patriot Games" and found new life in the action-adventure genre after immediately following with "The Fugitive", while "The Shadow" pretty much killed any future of Alec's big-budget legitimacy, at least as a headlining star. But can you blame him? Well, I'd like to blame somebody. I was pretty pissed when I heard that he wasn't going to do "Patriot Games". And I just don't think Harrison Ford should be in any movie without Chewbacca next to him, although Josh Hartnett came pretty close in "Hollywood Homicide". Granted, sometimes stars can smell trouble in a sequel, e.g. Michael Keaton and Jody Foster, but you simply do not say no to the Jack Ryan franchise, particularly when you haven't cemented yourself as firmly as Sean Connery in the James Bond roles. Anyway, Alec Baldwin will always be my favorite actor, despite the anomaly of good looks and offbeat humor that he is. Hopefully, this DVD will highlight roles like The Mimic, Cassidy, Pete Schweaty, Derek Trent, and Charles Nelson Reilly, as well as the infamous Scout Master. Sorry if you were looking for a review, but I don't have it yet. Oh, and Amy Poehler should go back to UCB because SNL is seriously bringing her stock down. And take the falcon, too. The falcon rocks.
Summary of Saturday Night Live - Best of Alec BaldwinWhether he's playing a Scout Master seducing "Canteen Boy", a French teacher annoying his students, a Tough Guy or just talking about his famous "Schwetty Balls", Alec Baldwin is undoubtedly one of the funniest SNL hosts of all time. He's become a regular, playing in sketches throughout the years with some of the SNL greats including Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell. You're sure to enjoy some of Alec's hilarious celebrity impressions, such as Tony Bennett and Charles Nelson Reilly. And if you've ever wondered what it?s like to actually host SNL, you'll want to check out the DVD extras and bonus features, such as the audio commentary from Alec Baldwin himself as he comments on various sketches, as well as never-before-seen footage from dress rehearsals that never made it to television!
