Movie Review: A palatable masterwork of Jodoworsky
Summary: 5 Stars
This film is a brilliant balance for Jodorowsky, whereas people that aren't fans of "The Holy Mountain" and "El Topo" may actually watch this one with you.
It still carries his trademark strangeness and distinct sense of storytelling, but it has a more palpable plot and storyline. Brilliant and thought-provoking imagery is abundant, and is in no way compromised by the somewhat "modernized" story told by Jodorowsky. In a way, I would say it is also a good time-piece from the 80s.

Summary of Santa Sangre 2-DVD Special Edition
The ultimate version of Santa Sangre on DVD. This all-region NTSC format DVD (playable in the USA) is a 2-disc edition with a wealth of extras. Synopsis: A young man is confined in a mental hospital. Through a flashback we see that he was traumatized as a child, when he and his family were circus performers: he saw his father cut off the arms of his mother, a religious fanatic and leader of the heretical church of Santa Sangre ("Holy Blood"), and then commit suicide. Back in the present, he escapes and rejoins his surviving and armless mother. Against his will, he "becomes her arms" and the two undertake a grisly campaign of murder and revenge.
