Movie Reviews of Salem's Lot

Movie Review: A Classic slice of 1970s horror
Summary: 5 Stars

Better than the Stephen King novel that spawned it? I think so. The story of a small New England town falling under the evil spell of a master vampire was a miracle of a tv movie. The actors involved with this production were made for their roles. The special effects are minimal, but horrifying. This full-length mini-series bears repeated viewing. My only criticism would be that the direction was little... dry. George A. Romano was originally scheduled to take the job. The mind boggles with thoughts of the eerie directions that he would have taken the horror that is... and forever will be... Salem's Lot!

Movie Review: BEST OF THE VAMPIRE GENRE
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the BEST made for TV movies - EVER!!! I saw this as a young teenager in the 70's...IT SCARED ME SH@TLESS!!! So what if it doesn't stick with the book 100%, this is right up there with the great vampire flicks of all time. Who needs a bunch of posers splashing holy water around and arterial spray every few minutes?!? You don't need it because James Mason is acting his butt off with the rest of the cast!! YOU'LL BE SORRY IF YOU MISS THIS!!! As good as "The Night Stalker" with Darrin McGavin...you have to love the 70's!
This movie is a MUST HAVE for any lover of classic horror!!!

Movie Review: Scared me to death
Summary: 5 Stars

It is always fun to watch this movie as an adult and recall how scared I was as a 9 yr old in 1979. I still can't believe they played this on network TV. As far as I was concerned, those boys that became vampires could have been me. I took my licoln log set and made cucifixes and taped them to my windows, in case any of my buddies were to float out my window in a shroud of mist. James Mason was excellent as Straker. I watch this movie 1-2 times a year and always enjoy it. No other movie, except for Jaws, scared me on such a primal level as Salem's Lot.

Movie Review: Excellent scares
Summary: 5 Stars

Thanks to Tobe Hooper, this TV vehicle is more cinematic than not, and laced with true, prolonged hair-raising moments. With a healthy dose of sensuality as well, thanks to Bonnie Bedelia. I've never seen a more lovely vampire. I think David Soul puts in an excellent performance as well. Overall, it's not perfect, just a little creaky in places, but it sure tempts the hell out of me. The house interiors alone will make your skin crawl, and the first appearances of 'the Master' are shocking. The kids clawing at the windows will cost you some sleep.

Movie Review: A Great Horror Flick
Summary: 5 Stars

As a child of modern horror, this was not what I was expecting. This movie relied more on suspense that blood and guts gore.

I was very impressed by the vampire make-up. I was expecting something cheesy and laughable and instead I got something that was very realistic.

There was more attention paid to character relationships that I was expecting, also. The characters were more fully fleshed out that I am used to in horror.

This is a great movie as long as you aren't expecting the now usual blood, guts, and gore.
