Movie Reviews of Sailor Moon S - The MovieMovie Review: Sailor Moon S Summary: 4 Stars
hmmm, i saw this on DVD not knowing much about it, and i enjoyed the story, but ofcourse, i'm guy and found the whole lovey dovey story a little stupid, but the fighting scenes were cool. i suggest if you want to see it, get the subtitled video or the dvd, DO NOT watch it dubbed, it is VERY embrassing. *thinks of haruka's voice* umm yes, see it subtitled, and you'll enjoy it. the dub has too many annoying things, if you don't like reading subtitles, then don't bother watching this..
Movie Review: Super Sailor Moon Movie Summary: 4 Stars
Sailor Moon S is a sweet movie with a few corny moments. I absolutely enjoyed it however. Sailor Moon S is mainly about how Luna the cat falls in love with an astronomer named Kakeru. This makes Artemis the cat sad and a bit depressed. Meanwhile, an evil ice queen threatens to take over the world with her ice minions. It's up to the sailor scouts to defeat them.
Movie Review: Subtitles! Summary: 4 Stars
The subbed version is far better than the DiC or Cwi Dub. Kaguyahime no Koibito is a beautiful story of doomed love. Based off the Manga volume 11, so you know it's gotta be good! I still cry watching it, but once again, GET THE ORIGINAL or the sub. The english VAs just make me gag, especially Usagi "Serina".
Movie Review: A Review on the DVD--not the VHS Summary: 3 Stars
yes, folks, believe it or not, there is a difference between the DVD and the VHS versions. the VHS version is _edited_, so naturally the music is changed and a few scenes deemed too "violent" have been removed. i sympathize with those who have only the one version to watch. while there are plently of flaws in the dubbed version supplied on the DVD, the music remains, making the DVD much more palatable.the main flaw present in the dubbed version (of both DVD and VHS, naturally) is the poor quality of the outer senshi voice actresses. they were poorly recorded and badly scripted, and this mistake does detract a lot of pleasure from the movie for those fans who love the outer senshi. but the majority of the voice acting ranges from tolerable to excellent. the inner senshi (mars, venus, mercury, jupiter, and moon) maintained their usual standard of dubbing, subject to whatever your personal opinion might be regarding this. there were some unusual discrepances, however, in the voice of sailor venus and that of mina. luna's voice was the same, of course, a bit of a disappointment. it was difficult to picture this grandmother falling in love with kakeru. on the other hand, the voices of himeko and kakeru were outstanding. himeko even pronounced "kakeru" correctly. additionally, the quality of the dub doesn't matter on the DVD because the subtitled version is also present in this release. so each viewer can choose which version to favor. as for the DVD itself, it was techinically superior to the SMR release. better menus and lovely animation made going through the features quite a pleasure. the edited opening sequence was included for comparison, and it is very well cut to show scenes from each of the three movies. the one feature missing from this DVD that was nice on the SMR release is the edited version of the ending battle sequence. overall, and i know i am dissenting, i enjoyed the SMS dubbed version and the DVD. i definitely recommend it over the VHS for those people with DVD players.
Movie Review: Don't get near Sailor Moon S-Hearts in Ice (dubbed) Summary: 3 Stars
I would like to say that this movie was unexceptable in many ways. First of all, Sailor Moon R-Promise of the Rose was my favorite out of all three, and this movie just did not live up to my standards. Secondly, the voices in the dubbed (especially Trista's {Setsuna's} were off. Also, there were many, how should I say, "sappy" morals in the story, which I don't care for. Third, the movie was based on Luna and the human Kakuru, and how Luna learns how to truly love. It's also about a new enemy, but her actual name is never really mentioned. (I suppose that she is Snow Princess Kagua?) Snow Princess Kagua wants to freeze the Earth to make it part of her "collection." She uses her snow dancers to turn the city that Sailor Moon is living and continents around the world into a world of death-a peaceful slumber trapped in ice. Of course Super Sailor Moon uses her Silver Imperium Crystal and the aid of the Sailor Scouts...and you can decide what happens from there. The story expands from there, if at all. I do not reccomend this movie for any Sailor Moon fan, subtitled, dubbed, or in any form available.
