Movie Reviews of Sahara

Movie Review: Timeless
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those films you may have seen many time before, but if you see on TV again you almost have to sit down and watch again; it's irresistable.
I saw this film as a child on TV and never forgot the story, I was very happy to see available again.
The cast is great, and the story is believable and well told. And I wouldn't take a previous revierer from Ann Arbors skepticism with regards race relations in those days. If that person had ever had lead flying over his head he'd know there there are no racists in foxholes, or amongst people lost in the desert. Even in 1943.
A great war film

Movie Review: Excellent Bogart film
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally picked this up on DVD. I had seen in on video previously. This is a excellent war film with strong acting on all parts. The story moves well and you really get the feeling of being in a hot sandy desert. It is jingoistic for sure but I dont mind, as were most of the war movies during that period.

The international composition of Bogarts tank and passengers I felt was a way to show that international cooperation was going to be essential in overcoming the germans and that the Italians really were in this conflict over their head.

Anyway very enjoyable film

Movie Review: Sahara
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is probably one of the best war movies of all time. Granted it is old - made in 1943, just after the Battle of Kasserine Pass - and uses old movie technology, but it is well-made, great dialogue and good acting. Bogart is superb playing MSGT Joe Gunn, US Army, and the rest of the cast fall in accordingly. Every possible cliche about Brits, French, Naxis, Italians, Americans and a British Sudanese Sergeant Major is included in the movie, which enhances the story line. I have been looking for it on DVD for some time, and this DVD is an excellent repro of the old movie.

Movie Review: An American icon at his best.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is probably one of Bogart's best roles. It has all the elements that made him great. He's tough, smart, couragous, sympathetic, and above all as always, he is someone the audience can relate to. The film centers around a tank crew in retreat from the Germans making their way through the Libyan desert picking up an assortment of others along the way. The movie itself does a great job building up the story and the tension little by little culminating with an excellent ending. "Sahara" is a couple of cuts above the usual war movie.

Movie Review: One of the best films on WW2
Summary: 5 Stars

I must admit that I am not a big fan of Bogart and never really understood what most people saw in him but this is a truly fine film. It has a great cast and story.

A small group of allies come together at a lonely outpost in the desert with Bogart, his tank and crew. It's much like a mini Alamo but with a far different ending.

I know this film was made during the war so there is certain amount of propaganda feel to it but it really is well done and the story holds your interest.

I highly recommend this
