Movie Reviews of Sahara

Movie Review: Dedicated to the IV Armoured Corps of the Army Ground Forces!
Summary: 5 Stars

June 1942. An American detachment composed just for a few men , joins forces with a British underground detachment and will undertake one of epic and brave battles in the desert where the domain of the water is far above any other ideological flag.

To survive will be the consign. Headed by the wilful American Sergeant - Humphrey Bogart - the astonishing and fluid camera work and the excellent photography of Rudolph Mate, the film will really convey you to the last frontier of the unthinkable.

One of the most remarkable films of 1943 and certainly one of the most reminded epic War films ever filmed. An excellent cast supports this majestic masterwork. In my personal list, this is one of the most beloved hard cult movies ever made.

Don't miss it!

Movie Review: Water For Guns...
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a survival fight right up until the end, this realistic World War II film stars the great Humphrey Bogart as Sergeant Joe Gunn. Bogie's commander of a small tank battalion stranded in the hot sands of the Sahara desert in Africa. Surrounded and totally outnumbered by the enemy, North, East, and West, Sgt. Gunn points his small crew South, hoping to find water and reinforcements. Along the way the crew finds a battered British co., two prisoners of war, and a British scout to help guide the way for the long journey for water, unfortunately five hundred German soldiers share the same destination. Who will drink the water in the end? A Columbia Classics dvd, b&w, full screen, remastered audio and video. "Sahara", 1943, is an action-packed wartime classic, with a legendary actor.

Movie Review: Desert Duel
Summary: 5 Stars

Any fan of Humphrey Bogart probably has seen this. If they haven't, hop to it! Those of you that have not seen anything by him, you need to see at least three, "Casablanca", "African Queen", and "Sahara". If you can spare the time catch "The Maltese Falcon", "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and "Key Largo". Quite honestly he made very few movies that most people would not enjoy. The sets and music are great but the characterizations steal the movie. A rag tag group of soldiers fight off overwhelming odds of the bad guys, in this case German soldiers, in the desert. Kind of like "Magnificent Seven" and "Beau Geste" rolled into one. Well worth the time to see it. I bought the DVD and it is great quality. Some extras included.

Movie Review: One Of The Best WWII Movies
Summary: 5 Stars

Boggie did an outstanding job playing the hard-bitten sargent of his tank crew. Seperated and alone out in the blowing sands of the Sahara durring the north african campaign, running out of fuel, water and time, Boggie leads his men and an Italian prisoner to an issolated well, with a thirsty Affika Corp hot ( pun intended ) on his heels. There, he and his men attempt to hold off the Germans who are also in desperate need of water. Can they hold off the Nazi's ? Will they survive ?? Will Bogart be unfortunate enough to go on to star in " Beat The Devil "??? Watch it and find out.

A great script, well acted and tense. This is one of those films that made movies such a great experience durring the golden age.

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This little know Bogart movie was an astounding find for me. The story is based on a Soviet Photoplay article about a group of stranded soliers in the Sahara desert who make a stand against an approaching band of Germans during World War II. A bit heavy on the "why can't we just all get along" line (excluding the Germans, of course) but notable for its humanization of all the disparate people involved, their political beliefs and other religions. In addition, it is an entertaining story of clever manipulations by our heroes to assure their survival versus the overwhelming Germans. Has a great ending. Dan Duryea shines, as does Bogart.
