Movie Reviews of SCTV, Volume 2 (5 Disc Set)Movie Review: WE WANT THE ORIGINALS!!!! Summary: 4 Stars
Any REAL fan of SCTV knows that the REAL best episodes were the original 30 minutes ones when the show was in syndication. In my case, they were broadcast over WWOR in NYC. These were the shows that were really raw and underground. They had nobody to impress but themselves (and US!) and nothing to prove. These episodes were truly the best of the show. When it went to NBC, it became commercial, and added filler. PLUS, Harold Remis, who by that time had relegated himself to mostly writing and producing, was the funniest character on the show. His "Officer Friendly" and others were HILARIOUS!!! PLEASE, BRING US THE ORIGINALS!!!!
Movie Review: Gangway for a Miracle! Summary: 4 Stars
This boxed set is packed with comic gems: Lola Heatherton's "Way to Go Woman," Zontar, Skip & Bobby Bittman, and my favorite SCTV sketch of all time, "Gangway for Miracles" starring Edith Prickley. All of these feature the SCTV players at their near-peak: Catherine O'Hara, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, and Eugene Levy shine especially bright.
I've been watching these five discs all week and keep finding funny and interesting things that I had forgotten about over the years. A must have for the comedy lover's library.
Movie Review: Buy it for the Perry Como (fake) Show Summary: 4 Stars
My all-time favorite SCTV moment is in this set - Eugene Levy doing a deadpan version of the most relaxed Perry Como ever - complete with disco songs and John Candy as a Perry Como groupie! Cracks me up every time.
Movie Review: Not The Original Canadian Show Summary: 2 Stars
When I purchased this I thought it was the original 1/2 hour Canadian show. Instead it is the repackaged shows they ran on NBC. I found it very disjointed and cut up. Let us have the original.
