Movie Reviews of Rush in RioMovie Review: The best Rush DVD ever produced Summary: 5 Stars
With 30 albums to their credit and a handful of concert releases, Rush in Rio sits very near the top of the list in scope and quality. Although released before the R30 DVD set, I found I enjoyed the Rush in Rio DVD much more. Having been a Rush fan for about 20 years I have lived through the era of A Show of Hands (excellent), the hiatus years, and the comeback. To me Rush has never looked better than here in Rio. The documentary disk is a very nice extra since the band, especially Neil Peart, are so reclusive. It is a very rare look behind the scenes. The scene of Neil shooting the camera man an "umm... I'm reading here" look is priceless.
The music, ah the music. An excellent sampling of every era of the band is included. The must have Tom Sawyer is always a highlight, but to me the song that stands out the most is the instrumental YYZ and the giant Rio crowd singing ontamontapia along with it. They also roll out rare concert treasures like Natural Science and the songs off of Vapor Trails (which this DVD is from the tour of) are excellent. Pyrotechnics, lights, and sound, a Rush concert is a complete entertainment experience and the multiple camera angles and super high quality footage makes this a must own for any Rush fan.
Movie Review: Rush and Rio are a Match Summary: 5 Stars
Rio knows how to celebrate a great rock band and this video shows the enthusiasm of the RIO people. I'll be seeing Rush in June in Boise and I wish I hadn't seen the reaction of the crowd in Rio before my concert. They know how to enjoy themselves at a rock concert, for sure. It'll be hard pressed to get people to stand let alone jump the entire concert!
The band feeds off the energy of the crown. This, to me, is a must own DVD if you're a music fan! At first, I only had the CD and could hear the crowd "SINGING" to YYZ(an instrumental) and wanted to get the DVD to understand why. It's Rush and Rio, period!
Rush rocks on this DVD!
Movie Review: This Concert is Alive and Kicking Summary: 5 Stars
I caught the Vapor Trails concert in Denver and was once again shocked at how perfect these guys play live. This concert DVD has an energy level far beyond todays bands. Of course RUSH is a band that plays for the fans. The Rio crowd was very responsive and the song line-up is great. The audio and video is first rate too. It's awesome on a big screen with quality HiFi equipment. If you enjoy true musicians and live performances you will love this DVD and be happy you added it to your collection.
Enjoy the show!
Movie Review: Rush Rocks Me! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of Rush ever since I saw them as the back-up band for Kiss, playing at a high school in the Chicago area (yep, that should date me for sure). After watching this DVD I was amazed at how awesome they are regardless of aging a few years. I actually think they've gotten better! They are all so musically tallented and I am so very glad they have kept going. Thank you guys for the many years of pure enjoyment!
Movie Review: Rush still Rocks Summary: 4 Stars
If you're a Rush fan you have to own this one. A well produced video displaying the exceptional talents of Neil, Geddy, and Alex. A wide spectrum of songs brings out the old and the new. It's hard to believe this band has been together for 30 years!
