Movie Reviews of Rumble in the Bronx

Movie Review: Rumble in the Bronx Indeed!...
Summary: 4 Stars

This is it. This is the film that introduced Jackie Chan to the masses in America, forever putting him on the map of action heroes. The film is basically a 90 tour-de-force highlight of Chan's exciting and often times hilarious, high-octane, in-your-face kung fu antics featuring Chan's trademarked ultra-choreographed but jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring just plain AWESOME action sequences (including the trademarked end-of-film outtakes).

THE MOVIE

The Story: Jackie's character travels to New York to attend his uncle's wedding and help at his supermarket. He unwittingly gets into a war with the neighborhood motorcycle/street gang, which in turn becomes unwittingly involved in a high-stakes diamond heist operation.

Notable Scenes:

1. The initial supermarket fight scene.

2. The motorcycle gang's pursuit of Jackie in a parking structure.

3. The hovercraft scene.

THE DVD FEATURES:

Somewhat limited in the special features section, the DVD nonetheless includes a nice short bio on Chan himself including a complete filmography (up to the point that the DVD was published anyway...) as well as the original movie theater trailer for Rumble In the Bronx.

THE VERDICT:

Overall, this is another great outing from Jackie and whether you purchase, rent or borrow, this is a recommended film for all action movie/martial arts film/Jackie Chan fans.

Highly Recommended

Movie Review: Shows Great Skill
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very enjoyable movie for those who just want to have fun. This movie is more of a display of some of the things Jackie can do. The scene where he is practicing on the Wing Chun wooden dummy is awesome. It really shows the amazing speed he is capable of. The fight scenes are also very good throughout. It's amazing how Jackie takes on so many enemies at one time. Like when he takes on those 4 guys in the market with such speed and force. However, the movie is a bit cheesy, that took the fifth star on my rating. Aside from that, Jackie can take on any other action star on style alone. He really has No Fear. No Stuntman. No Equal.

Movie Review: Jackie's third journey to the West
Summary: 4 Stars

Unfortunatly, not every Jackie Chan film can be a five star classic. But there is still plenty to admire in "Rumble in the Bronx." Enough to make most American made action pictures look like projects done by first quarter film students while suffering a hang-over.Though the plot is paper thin and is obviously filmed in Vancouver, BC, the film offers enough brilliant action scenes, stunts and humor you soon forget about the plot and no longer care.

Movie Review: Nothing like I've ever seen
Summary: 4 Stars

Jackie Chans big movie that got his name recognized. From the first point I saw Chan fight I was rolling. One guy in the middle of a crowd of gangsters just going nutz on them kicking their [butts] All this while keeping a desperate look on his face is what makes this guy really fun to watch. The story is a little bit bland and gets a little boring in the end but with fight seens that have been done so well you can't give this movie any lower than a four.

Movie Review: Vintage Jackie
Summary: 4 Stars

This is one of the best Jackie Chan movies of the 90s, with some very exciting fights and stunts. I strongly recommend that you seek a Hong Kong version of this film. The Hong Kong version includes some scenes that were cut out of the American film. Those scenes make the story much more coherent. Moreover, the English subtitles in the HK version are less distracting than the bad dubbing of the American version.
