Summary of Rosemary & Thyme - Series Three
Stunning locations at home and abroad provide the backdrop for this hit British mystery series starring Felicity Kendal (Good Neighbors, The Camomile Lawn) and Pam Ferris (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Matilda) as professional gardeners and amateur sleuths. From their former careers as a university plant biologist and a police officer, Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme bring unique investigative talents to their horticultural and human mysteries. Their unobtrusive presence in the garden gives them unique access to secrets other detectives might miss-and that murderers would rather not reveal.Kew Gardens, Regent's Park, the Andalusian village of Mijas, and a Surrey vineyard are just some of the places the enterprising pair will take you in these eight concluding episodes. Guest stars include Margaret Tyzack, Michael Maloney, and Terence Harvey.

Dead bodies sprout like weeds wherever Rosemary Boxer (Felicity Kendal, Good Neighbors) and Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris, Children of Men) go--and as professional gardeners/amateur detectives, it's their job to get to the root of things. The combination of murderous skullduggery and idyllic gardens give Rosemary & Thyme its whimsical charm. Over the course of 8 episodes, Laura and Rosemary investigate mysteries involving seeds from South America, a three-legged dog, an abandoned infant, cheesy outdoor theatricals, and moaning and clanking in the attic of a struggling hotel. These are not cunning whodunits; viewers looking for the chance to match wits with the on-screen detectives will be frustrated, as the stories rarely present enough information for the audience to figure out the solutions before they are unveiled. Rosemary & Thyme depends instead on your engagement with our heroines: Two middle-aged ladies who bicker and joke with each other like comfortable old friends. British mysteries have always valued eccentricity over glamour, and Rosemary & Thyme fit nicely into that tradition. Though by this third series the writing has grown a bit more rote, the show also makes an effort to enrich the leading ladies' lives by bringing in backstory elements about their friends and relatives. --Bret Fetzer
