Movie Reviews of Roger & Me

Movie Review: A Humorous and Satirical Classic
Summary: 5 Stars

Roger and Me launched Michael Moore's career. He has mastered the art of using humor to make serious social and political commentary. While some of his movies have treaded on controversial grounds, this one just asks a simple question. Is it right for corporate CEO's to accept lavish salaries and huge raises while their company loses money and exports jobs overseas? If you find this to be a reasonable question, you won't find Roger and Me politically objectionable. You'll admire how this master of the documentary can use humor to bring the rich and famous down to size. Two big thumbs up for Roger and Me. Watch Me

Movie Review: Worth watching
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been wanting to see this movie for years and finally got around to buying a copy through Amazon. It was no longer in my local video stores. It first came out in 1989 and I think it was Rogers first film. Its story is still going on today and at full speed about corporate greed and American factories closing and moving to other countries, leaving towns and its people devastated by the loss of their jobs. The film has funny moments but its true content is not funny. If you care about America, Buy American. Just because you work in a restaurant, A mall store or any non factory job does not mean that your job is safe from being elimated by this selish greed going on today.

Movie Review: The little known epilogue
Summary: 5 Stars

Plenty has been said about "Roger and Me" already, so I will merely point out that there is an epilogue "Pets or Meat" about 25 minutes long which appeared on TV a couple of years later. It shows how the principal actors fared since the original movie was shot. As you can guess from the title, the Rabbit Lady features prominently. Others include the sheriff and the Amway lady.
Unfortunately this does not seem to be available on DVD anywhere. It may not deserve a DVD to itself, but would have been a logical extra in the "Roger and Me" DVD. However, it can be downloaded if you know your way around the internet.

Movie Review: Even better than Bowling for Columbine
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a Michael Moore fan, you simply must have this for your collection. Even if you have never heard of Michael Moore, you will enjoy this story. Moore takes you on an eventful journey as he sets out to confront Roger Smith (GM). You will laugh, cry, and become enraged. I watched the film and then watched it agin with the commentary immediately after. This is a rare occurance. My only suggestion to make the DVD better would be to add an alternate ending in which Moore ultimately gets Roger Smith alone and sticks a foot up his hiney :). Although the story takes place in the 1980s, it is truly a timeless tale.

Movie Review: Michael Moore for President!
Summary: 5 Stars

Michael Moore is without a doubt one of the most important American film makers of our time. His films make a statement. They challenge any citizen of the U.S. not to just not take things at face value and to question our goverment, our corporations and our system in general. I encourage anyone interested in Roger and Me to pick up Bowling for Columbine and The Awful Truth or the TV Nation series on DVD. Another great DVD to get is DarkDays. A great documentary on the Homeless in the underground subways of NYC. It is filmed by another extrodinary film maker who litterally went homeless while making his film.
