Movie Reviews of Rocky BalboaMovie Review: a truly great movie Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't sure what to expect with the news that a new Rocky movie was in the works. I thought to myself "Well, maybe this is just TOO much and the series should have stayed in the past where it belongs". BUT, I was wrong.
This movie really surprised me with the amount of emotional scenes. More emotion than the older Rocky films, which is amazing. This is what REALLY made the movie shine in a light that made the entire thing worth watching over and over.
The emotions obviously lead up to one heck of a fantastic boxing match at the end. Who wins the fight? Doesn't matter, and you'll see why at the end. What a great way to end an interesting series, that's all I'll say about the ending.
Another thing that surprised me was the way the entire movie had a creepy, quiet tone that pretty much stayed like that until the training for the main boxing match at the end. That tone really helped keep my interest in the storyline, so a job WELL done.
Another cool thing is how the storyline leads you believe Rocky is too old to ever fight again, and then you see a completely different person when the time comes for Rocky to fight. Awesome.
You must see Rocky Balboa to watch how to properly tell an interesting and emotional story.
Movie Review: Far better than anybody could have imagined Summary: 5 Stars
I was, as indeed most people were, very sceptical when I heard, that yet another instalment of Rocky were to be made. The series withered and died with the fifth movie, that was anything but good. Or so I thought.
Although I was sceptical, I of course had to see the movie, and I must admit it blew me away. One of my main concerns were how they would explain Rocky going back into the ring again, seeing that he's 60 years old and all, but they made quite convincingly made it plausible. The storyline is very good if a bit simple, and the acting is solid. Stallone delivers a good performance as an aging Balboa looking for meaning and purpose with his existence. You really feel for him as he goes through all the obstacles between him and the fight.
Also one of the things I enjoyed very much about the movie was, that there is no animosity. The two fighters don't hate each other, there's not really any bad feelings in there, only good sportsmanship.
The production values are of course top notch and more importantly the fight choreography is as good as ever.
This movie immediately reminds one of Rocky I with its valid story and good acting and is easily one of the best movies of the year. Highest possible recommendation.
Movie Review: Rocky Balboa Goes The Distance Summary: 5 Stars
In this movie, ESPN broadcasts a computer-simulated fight between Rocky and the current heavyweight champion [which is likened to the famous 1970 Ali-Marciano computer fight]. The computer fight inspires Rocky to make a comeback at an advanced age.
Kevin King, producer of Rocky Balboa, discussed in the Rocky Balboa DVD bonus feature that the Rocky Balboa movie was inspired by George Foreman's comeback to win the title at an advanced age. In his comeback, George was older, wiser and re-invented himself to become a popular fan favorite. Foreman went on to win the title in an amazing comeback after a 10 year hiatus from the ring. George Foreman was a preacher (in fact, Foreman's fight with Gerry Cooney was billed as "The Preacher vs. The Puncher").
Former heavyweight boxer Pedro Lovell appeared in both the original Rocky movie and in the 2006 Rocky Balboa movie. Like George Foreman during his comeback in real life, Spider Rico in the Rocky Balboa movie is older and wiser. Spider's screen time in Rocky Balboa involves reading the Bible and quoting scripture to inspire Rocky just prior to his bout with Mason "The Line" Dixon (played by real life boxer Antonio Tarver).
Movie Review: Stallone's Best In Years- Saw it in the Theatres Summary: 5 Stars
I don't give 5 stars to just anything. But I saw this in the theatres and it blew me away. I saw it twice, as a matter of fact. Simply, Stallone's best movie in years, probably his best movie since Cliffhanger that just had this universal appeal. Why is Stallone able to do anything he wants, from Demolition Man, Rambo and even Stop or My Mom Will Shoot? His success with Rocky. This last installment in the up and down Rocky series sees Stallone returning Rocky to his origins as gothic, yes, gothic and a bum. It was the best entry in the Rocky series since the first one, probably better than Rocky 2. Adrian dies and Stallone fights real life champ Mason Dixon. A has been, Rocky against someone at the top of his game whose own popularity and credible legacy are in doubt. Stallone forray as the "man/actor of the 90s" is going here to the millenium man. Every Stallone movie will be big and make millions, routine box office triumphs for Stallone who can still wow the ladies at like age 55 or whatever he is. I'll give away a spoiler so don't read further unless you want it really bad (ROCKY GOES THE DISTANCE YET AGAIN AND GETS A SPLIT DECISION!!! IT WOULD'VE BEEN TOO PREDICTABLE IF HE WON!!!)
Movie Review: finally, Rocky gets closure! Summary: 5 Stars
Another Rocky flic! Just the thought made me hesitant but after viewing I was completely satisfied. Rocky Balboa has aged and lost his wife to female cancer. In addition to that, he has to contend with his also aging brother-in-law, Paulie, and his son who seems highly embarrassed by Rocky's existence and presence. After a virtual boxing match on television between Rocky and the reigning heavy weight champion, Mason (the line)Dixon, which favored Rocky, Dixon's promoters urge an exhibition match between the two. Rocky trains and puts his heart and soul into this event, which becomes the catalyst that mends his relationships with Paulie, his son, and most importantly with himself. He also befriends a former neighborhood delinquent, who is now grown up and raising a teenage son by herself. This provides the impetus that allows Rocky to finally put Adriane's death to rest. The film brings back characters and the actors who portrayed them from the original Rocky film of 1976. All in all, Rocky triumphs and obtains closure to the many situations that have plagued him over the years. He puts his demons to rest and finally becomes content with both his life today and who he is.
