Movie Review: Silly, but effective for my son
Summary: 4 Stars
Other reviewers have accurately described the product. Most of the songs are simply repetitions of math facts with some graphics of random items being added and subtracted from one another. (E.G. 4+2=6 shows a group of 4 apples being brought together with a group of 2 apples.) Comparisons to flash cards are apt, but the graphic representation does help the learner understand.
The production values and performances in this video are worth a good laugh for any adult who isn't still a huge fan of Rick Astley or some other late-80s schlock-rocker, but my 3 and a half year old son loves it and has used it to memorize nearly all of his addition and subtraction facts. In addition, he mimics the graphics of the items being added to one another by taking groups of random items from around the house and adding them together. This shows me that he's not simply memorizing the words (something he is very good at) but is making the association with the math concepts of addition and subtraction.
My son is autistic and was obsessed with numbers before starting to use this product, so I'm not sure I would recommend this for other 3-year-olds; however, it seems like a perfect match for my boy and if you see your child in my description of mine it might be a good product for you.
