Movie Reviews of Robin and Marian

Movie Review: On Golden Pond In Sherwood Forrest
Summary: 3 Stars

Strange plot and theme for a medieval hero such as Robin Hood. Heroic effort at coming up with such as story but it just falls flat.

In this rendition of the legendary fable, Robin Hood (Connery) returns to England to meet with Marion (Hepburn) and soon realizes that he's just out of tune with the times; Marion is the cataclysm that makes him accept the final conclusion that he's all washed up, old, and without much fighting left in him: just enough breath for one final effort. The ending is ludicrous for a period obsessed with Christian values; their actions amounting to a cardinal sin with no offer of salvation.
The script is unimpressive and the dialogue is slow. The music seems to add to the slumber. Two old geezers reminiscing about the good old days; a real yawner. I find it doubtful that peoples of the 12th Century had even time to contemplate getting old; life back then being so nasty, brutish, and short, they usually died before thoughts of age ever crossed their minds.

I wouldn't recommend owning this one. Rent it to satiate your curiosity and then,if you're still awake at the end, decide if it's worth owning.

Movie Review: Robin and Marian-Classic story, so-so disc
Summary: 3 Stars

I was thrilled to receive in perfect condition, the great classic with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn. The packaging indicates it was digitally remastered. I'm sure it was, but toward the last ten minutes there appears to be some defective footage that pulsates visually during the night scenes between Robin and Marian and Marian and Little John, the night before the dual scene between Robin and Sherrif of Nottingham (Robert Shaw). I think they made some technical errors in decreasing the black level contrast ratio during pre-mastering and replication.

Nevertheless, both my wife and I enjoyed watching the classic drama and I recalled reading my copy of Robin Hood as a seven year-old child, given to me by my Dad, who never lived to see this awesome film. He would have loved it.

Movie Review: love that is ment for all time
Summary: 3 Stars

This film is in the great style of a classic old movie, with much dialog and emotional thought provoking scenes of two seemingly star crossed lovers who reconnect after many years only to be threatened again by the unyielding wonderlust ego of Robin. Marian put and end to his wondering in a most surprizing way so the two of them can be together for all time. it made my husband cry, a beautiful story of unending, enduring love that follows them into eturnity...

Movie Review: Wasted Classic.
Summary: 2 Stars

Robin Hood. Sean Connery. Maid Marian. Audrey Hepburn. The Sheriff of Nottingham. Robert Shaw. Music. John Barry.
If you think this sounds like the perfect mixture for a classic film, think again.
Despite having so many things going for it, Robin and Marian ends up being nothing more than a typical 70's action movie.
Typical 70's ending. Everybody dies. Typical rating, PG. Despite the fact that this film contains harsh profanity (mostly religious), sexual situations, bloody violence, and brief male nudity.
In other words, not a family movie...
Not even a movie for adults.
Deliriously slow. Lacks excitement and a good script. Despite good performances from its lead stars this film lacks.
Not a total let down, but not worth a spot on my shelf.

Movie Review: Please....
Summary: 2 Stars

I love the story of Robin Hood. So much so, that I have watched just about every rendition of it. This one is aweful. Robin comes home an old man to his equally older Maid Marian. He apparently had very little concern for her seeing as he never bothered to come home to claim her. In my opinion, she should have married someone else, but instead she became a nun.Oh, that's romantic. And finally, at the end of the movie, she poisons them both. Hello...that is just depressing. If she can't have the rest of his life, then they might as well go out together. I will concede that this is fresh new take on a very old story, but come on.... where is the joy? All there was to take away from this movie was sadness.
