Movie Reviews of Rob RoyMovie Review: Ridicuouls Summary: 2 StarsThe film was fencing about all right, until the last sword scene. To pretend that someone can halt an expert swordsman at bay by grabbing the blade of his sword with, of all things, his bare hand, so that the attacker can neither plunge it past his grip or pull it out, is just outrageously silly. That this simple point should have eluded most of the reviewers on this site is, to say the least, almost as amazing. It is so silly it just metastisises over any enjoyment one might have had of the whole. Incredible that any one seeing this Munchausen fib when it was shown at the theatre, wouldn't have risen for his seat whith a loud "Oh, please, come on!!"
Movie Review: excellent movie Summary: 5 StarsJust made an extended visit to Scotland last summer and it made the movie all the more interesting because I had actually trod on some of the soil where Rob Roy's adventures took place. Good entertainment for history buffs.
Movie Review: A Highland Legend brilliantly portrayed! Summary: 4 StarsHere we have one of those films that is as enjoyable in the tenth or so viewing as the first! The landscape of Scotland is generously displayed throughout. Liam Neeson plays the part of Rob Roy MacGregor, the legendary outlaw of the Highlands, as only he can. I doubt there was anyone else who could have played the part so naturally. In this story, Rob Roy finds himself forced to fight a guerrilla war against Marquis Montrose, a string of events resulting from the criminal acts of the Marquis' vile employee, Archibald Cunningham. Cunningham robbed the clan of a monetary loan, murdered Rob's best friend, and raped Rob's wife. However, Rob Roy, a true Highlander and man of honor, settles this issue by the sword, putting an end to Cunningham! The duel is one high point of the film, another memorable scene is a meeting between rival aristocrats Marquis Argyle and Marquis Montrose, in which Cunningham is introduced. I won't give away the dialogue!
Movie Review: A Wonderful Movie in the Heart of the Trossachs Summary: 5 StarsLiam Neesom was wonderful as Rob Roy. The movie left one captivated as it caught the beauty of the Highland Trossachs. To me, this area is one of the most beautiful in Scotland. When I saw Roby Roy's grave, I wanted to cry. I thought back to the movie and all it told us about the man.
While some of the history may not be accurate - this is Hollywood after all - you still learn enough about the man to discover many of the travails Scots often suffered.
Jessica Lange was wonderful as his wife. And Tim Roth, as always, played the perfect person to hate.
I highly recommend this movie!

Movie Review: Well it just stands head and shoulders up there above braveheart... Summary: 5 StarsDon't get me wrong, i love Braveheart but this movie is close to my heart ) My name is Robert Duncan McGregor and this is my family history being told. Historically it makes out Rob better than you might expect, given that he could be a right so-and-so.
It is clear from watching that Rob Roy holds the hearts and minds of Scottish people everywhere in remembering the wrong-doings of the English in taking Scotland down as a nation but it also gives a view of the Scots nation as a group of wonderful poeple with huge amounts of strenegth to be giving to the UK even now.
It is a story of hope, that all good men with a vision can realise that vision and see justice done!
I just hope people watch it and realise that there are a couple of million of us McGregors out there that will always be as pasionate about our heritage and will stand up for what is right and true in all me. We've been the underdogs and now we get a chance to speak our minds, it is glorious.
'S RHIOGAL MO DREAM - Royal is my race!
