Movie Reviews of Ricky Nelson SingsMovie Review: At Last.........but not enough Summary: 5 Stars
Rick Nelson Sings has finally arrived at my house from Amazon. I love this DVD. One realizes the greatness of the man and the many hits he had. In regards to the "Hello Mary Lou" track. The video used was without James Burton's solo. There were, I believe two versions of "Hello Mary Lou" recorded. One without a JB solo and one with the solo. Too bad the video version had no solo.
One of the funniest parts for me was watching James Burton do a guitar solo on "I Got A Feeling." He begins the solo on a Telecaster and when they zoom in, it's another guitar all together. They zoom out and it's back to the Telecaster. Doesn't really matter. Sounds great.
I think the interviews with his adult children are wonderful. The sweetness of Tracy Nelson has always been loved in our home. The twins performing with James Burton is awesome. As I have never followed the twins closely, I was knocked out by their talent. What moved my wife and I was the baby of the family, "Sam Nelson" finally singing with his brothers for the first time. When he closed his eyes like his father used to do....gave us chills. Can't do much about the talking over solos and laugh tracks as these were all taken from the actual TV show.
One complaint. Is there any footage of the Stone Canyon Band. Rick's "Live at The Troubadour" is still one of my favorite CD's. Elvis loved him and Ricky's hero Carl Perkins loved him. By the way the story how Ricky went from Ricky to Rick and back to Ricky was just great and answered a few questions.
Sorry........could have done without the Kristofferson comments. I didn't see the continuity there. Buy this DVD!! It rocks and you can see how his children......who meant everything to him.......turned out.
