Movie Review: Missed the mark...
Summary: 3 Stars
Rev. Billy is a talented musician and funny comedian. I own all his CD's and listen to them often. Somehow his material didn't translate to video very well. Maybe because the production was rather homemade. Or because it looks like it was taped in someone's garage. As a fan I enjoyed it, but will probably pass it on to friends, it's not worth watching again. It might be better to rent it from Net Flix instead.

Adopting a persona that's equal parts revival preacher, professional wrestler, social satirist and keyboard wizard, Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is unlike any other performer on the touring circuit. A comic genius and American musicologist, he blazes a trail across the country playing nightclubs, comedy clubs and performance art centers, bringing his First House of Polyster Worship services to legions of fans and new converts. Sermon From Bethlehem, being released on DVD as well as CD, documents Billy at his schizophrenic best, careening non-stop through a selection of old comic favorites (Grandma VS The Crusher, The Visitor, Roberta) and soon-to-be classics (Female Problems, Do The Toleration). Recorded in 2005 at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem....Pennsylvania. The DVD has a significantly different program than the companion CD - see Amazon's music store for track listing and details.
