Movie Reviews of RevengeMovie Review: True love...irresistable...inescapable... Summary: 5 Stars
No mercy, against all odds and Romeo and Juliet all rolled into one action packed show. Jay Cochran (Kevin Costner)former pilot is invited to Mexico to visit his "friend" Tiburan Mendez(Anthony Quin). He saved Tiburan's life and Tibby feels indepted to him. Jay unintentionally falls in love with Tibby's wife Mireya (Madeleine Stowe). She loves Jay and decides to leave with him. Tiburan is a worldly man indulging in wild mistresses and parties. He's like the mexican mafia. Tibby over hears her plans to go away for the weekend and of her love for Jay. She had never been with anyone but Tiburan and now Jay. So I feel when they were caught together Tiburan's punishment to her is heartless and discusting. And if anyone is punished for horrid behavior it would be him. No one deserves what he did to her. She was merely an ornament to him. And how could she ask him for a divorce...he wouldn't have let her go. These kind of movies keep finding me. The sad dramatic endings...Costners performance in the end was so real I cried...Kevin and Madeleine were a believable couple. They were fabulous together. Beautiful beaches and country sides. And the rollercoaster ride in the sky in the beginning was great. Masterfully acted and beautifully photographed. Great movie...but saaad.
Movie Review: Wow! I would never let myself get into this position... Summary: 5 Stars
What a great film. It starts off slow, but soon takes off. Costner plays his role to perfection. Quinn as the aging Mexican gangster is also magnificent.Costner is a newly retired Airforce pilot. He has a cabin in the mountains of Mexico that he intends to retire to. Also in Mexico is a very close friend (Quinn). While on his way to his cabin, he decides to stop by and see his frienf. The movie does not go into too much detail about how/why they are friends. It leads you to believe that Costner at some time in the past saved Quinn's life during a hunting trip. Quinn is an aging Mexican gangster. Actively involved in politics (behind the scenes). He also has a wife that is half his age. She wants children, Quinn does not. She seeks refuge in the arms of Costner. As can be expected, Quinn finds out what is going on. He is ruthless in his pursuit of revenge. However, uncharacteristically, he does not kill the two. He has Costner beat nearly to death and left in the desert. The girl is slashed across the face and dropped off at a Mexican bordello where the owner is told to keep her drugged up. This is where the real story starts. The introduction of the characters and the opening of the real story take about 40 minutes. It's a little slow, but the rest of the film is worth the wait.
Movie Review: The Best of The Best of The Best Summary: 5 Stars
I think that "Revenge" is the best movie I have seen in years. It's not the actors so much as the plot and the message behind the movie. I feel that it potrays a real world story we see unfortunately too often. Here is an older man, although I don't believe age had anything to do with it who literally kills his wife as revenge for adultery. I'm sorry but I feel that the punishment given to her was well deserved. I know I sound primative but come on she should have divorced him and then get on with her life. You don't betray the one you marry, had it been him she might have done the same thing if she really loved him. This is the reason we have so much horrors going on in this world. People cannot seem to be happy with what they choose and feel they can just change it and do what makes them feel good. What about the other person, what about their feelings. It's not his fault that she supposedly fell in love with a younger handsome man. Anyone who tries can fall in love with someone else easily if they are not in love but why should the other partner have to accept it. I loved the film. It is very sad and so real that it is almost scary.
Movie Review: Costner's best film Summary: 5 Stars
I truly cannot believe how people can think this movie is not good. It is the best Costner movie I've seen to date. The story is classical in tone and nature. It's instinctive and beautifully filmed by Tony Scott. It hits several emotional chords. Friendship, love, honor, duty, and last but not least, revenge. I would say that the movie should not have been titled, "Revenge", as it suggests that's what the movie is all about. The movie is about a divorced Vietnam vet who decides to 'get out' and take it one day at a time. He is trying to collect himself and understand his life when he falls for a very beautiful woman (entirely plausable). The scene where they make love in the coat room is the steamiest scene on film. It's beautiful. The whole movie is beautifully filmed. Costner's depth of character is immense. His acting range is diverse. The only bad thing I can say about the movie is that it is not LONG enough. Sometimes the scenes jump around a bit without explanation. That is the only weakness in the film. It's a Great Tragic Love Story in every sense of the word.
Movie Review: What's Not to Love? Summary: 5 Stars
I was recently in a staff meeting where we had to share our all-time favorite movie. I am a movie-aholic and this is among my top five. Why? Not because most people drool over Kevin Costner (he doesn't do much for me, actually). It's because it is the only movie I've seen 30 or more times that can STILL make me cry as hard as I did the first time I saw it. Anthony Quinn is a film god and always will be, 'nuff said. As for Madeline Stowe, I just wish she would make more movies for she is truly an underrated (and undercast) gem. I don't buy into what critics and some other reviewers here apparently dislike. It is what it is ... violence and spousal abuse notwithstanding ... that's just part of the movie and I suppose, part of that culture. But as for a TRUE love story with a final scene that will make you boo hoo out loud, this one cannot be beat! Grab the Kleenex ...
