Movie Reviews of Revenge of the Ninja

Movie Review: Great ninja movie
Summary: 4 Stars

This movie is very old and very campy, but it is one of the coolest ninja movies. Sho Kosugi blows away all other martial arts guys. The man playing the evil ninja currently stars in some soft pornography films on Cinemax. It is a great film though and pits good ninja vs. bad ninja for his son.

Movie Review: Revenge of the Ninja
Summary: 3 Stars

A former ninja master escapes from Japan with his son after a rival clan destroys his family. Cho starts a new life in America where he begins training his young son in the ways of the ninja, but when his business partner gets wrapped up in a botched drug trade, Cho is forced to suit up and launch an all-out assault against the mafia crime bosses and a mysterious masked warrior. Martial artist Sho Kosugi stars in this off-the-wall action flick that is jam-packed with kicks, flips, and tons of clanging katanas! REVENGE OF THE NINJA speeds forward with non-stop violence and gore as the not-so-mysterious villain eliminates his enemies using a variety of deadly weapons. The final rooftop battle between the two disciplined warriors best demonstrates Kosugi's immense fighting skills.

While it is highly regarded as one of the best ninja films from the 80's, it is also hard to overlook many of the sillier aspects that the film represents. NINJA opens with some of the clumsiest and most overweight ninjas the world has ever known as they fail miserably in their attempts to kill Cho. Later, a conspicuously dressed mob informant with an eye patch is killed in broad daylight after a secret meeting in the middle of a public square. The informant isn't the only person that seems out-of-place, considering director Sam Firstenberg throws in every single action movie cliche that he can think of into an hour and a half. From the greasy Italian mobsters and an Indian scalper to the hilarious assortment of street punks in the park, NINJA shamelessly exploits every racial stereotype possible. Much of the choreography is expertly achieved, but there are still many stunts, edits, and fight sequences that are laughably bad. Some scenes are so absurd to the uninitiated action fan that is almost seems like a bad joke. Firstenberg films the entire thing without a shred of indignity, however, which makes the unintentional humor that much more enjoyable.

Whether it is watched for the onslaught of violence or the goofy humor, REVENGE OF THE NINJA is a fast-paced and immensely entertaining action flick that is a must-see for fans of the martial arts!

I Like Horror Movies

Movie Review: The negative reviews are right...
Summary: 3 Stars

Being a big ninja fan, I still don't see how people can be giving this movie 4 stars. LOL!!
This was my FAVORITE (I mean favorite!!) movie as a kid. It made me want nothing but ninja gear for gifts, birthday presents, and Christmas too. I actually received a steel (unsharpened) Samurai sword from China town in LA for my 10th birthday (Couldn't find the straight ninja swords with the square hand guard, as seen in the movies). I was also lucky enough to get a ninja suit and other toy (or heavy duty) ninja weapons, including sais and some of those thick steel ninja stars that you probably remember seeing in the late 80's :) Oh the memories...
Moving on! 15 years or so later, I bought this movie on instinct hoping to recapture the magic that I experienced as a kid. I was surprised to find this on DVD at my local best buy, so I had to pick it up! But when popping this disc in, I was dissapointed immediately!! The fight scenes are so bad it's funny!! Terrible choreography, acting, and yes even editing.
I do agree with the other reviewers who also had similar things to say, but with that said, this movie is NOT a "waste of time" Yes, it was poorly shot, but it still remains a classic ninja movie. The good things that it does have are the cool costumes, weapons, and ninja tactics!!
It is by all means, not a great example of how to soot a film, not at all. But it is, however, a great trip back to the late 80's when Sho Kosugi rocked the Ninja flicks!!
Check this movie out, only if you dig seeing the ninjas, themselves, but DON'T WATCH THIS EXPECTING TO GET A WELL EXECUTED MARTIAL ARTS FILM. For superb Martial Arts work, you want 'Hero' or 'House of Flying daggers'
If it wasn't for all of the blood and gore, this would be a cool kids flick.
This is worth a view, but not worth having in your collection, unless you collect Sho Kosugi films.

Movie Review: Best of a Bad Bunch
Summary: 3 Stars

To be honest their aren't that many decent ninja movies out there. The problem is down to the fact that the Martial Art Ninjutsu has been sensationalised by the Media who know very little if nothing about it. What this movie did along with the first one was bring the art of the ninja into the main stream. If it's good old-fashioned 80-style action you're after then this is about as good a ninja movie your going to get. But on the other hand if you want a more realistic version you may want to take a look at Shogun, Shinobi no mono or wait for the Last Samurai to come to DVD. If 80's ninja movies is you're thing then this is the best of a bad bunch. Buy this one or Enter the Ninja but forget the rest from this period.

Movie Review: 80s ninja rules!
Summary: 3 Stars

this movie is the definition of guilty pleasure.although sho kosugi is indeed a real life master, this movie makes him look both cool and stupid.he shows he can handle just about any weapon and can kick some ass.some of the movie's stupid scenes are when a lifesize dummy of braden pops out on the rooftop at the end and the village people like bad guys are lame.also the part where the sumo servent is raping cathy just comes off as being stupid. all in all though a movie that is good dumb fun!
