Movie Reviews of Repo! The Genetic Opera

Movie Review: Addicted to the knife? Addicted to the knife!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a friend whom I usually meet up with and watch several horror movies with. Since he works at blockbuster, he's allowed to rent out the movies that aren't even technically supposed to be on the shelf until the release date, which leaves me in a "mighty fine predicament." Anyway, he heard about this "horror rock opera" and decided to have me watch it with him. We watched it and were amazed by what we saw. Not only was this an amazing rock opera, but there was also great music, great acting, great cinematography and an amazing mood that has turned this movie into almost an instant cult classic.
The premise of "Repo!" is that in the not too distant future a company that provides people with various surgeries is founded in the wake of a string of organ failures. This company becomes very successful and begins selling their services in an almost cosmetic sense. However, the catch is that if you miss a payment on your surgeries, the company sends a Repoman to kill you and take back the organs that you ordered. This new fad in being a "surgical slut" begins this new addiction to a painkiller called zydrate which is extracted from corpses.
We are told this by the muse of the story, the Graverobber, who illegally breaks into graveyards to extract zydrate from the corpses to sell to junkies in the back alleys. Meanwhile, we are introduced to the head of the company, Rotti Largo, his three disfunctional children hoping to inherit the company, the Repoman and his ill daughter, Shilo. Some old grudges from the past are brought forth to put on a feud, as all of these characters wind up in the tragedy that is "Repo! The Genetic Opera."
This movie was basically everything that Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd" wasn't. It is considerably grim, there is tons of campy yet grotesque humor and there is also plenty of knife/scalpel inflicted gore (whether it be a surgery or a repossession of somebody's vital organs). What really struck me was the music. It's heavy, harmonious and dark. It's not stereotypical gentle musical sounds, but actually a very powerful, grim and sinister soundtrack. If you want to check out a new and exciting rock opera, give it a try.

Movie Review: This movie is my zydrate!

Ah. I thought this movie would actually be horrible, namely because of Paris Hilton. I am far from a fan of Paris, but she is not that bad in this movie (and this is coming from someone who loathes Paris), she is perfect for the role she plays: a spoiled, plastic surgery addicted, drug addicted, rich girl. I wasn't even going to give this movie a chance until I stumbled upon the imdb.com's page for Repo saw a post on the board that said something like "I'm not going to watch this movie, it has Paris Hilton in it!" and someone in response said "decide for yourself" and linked to the clip of "Zydrate Anatomy" on YouTube. I watched the clip and instantly went on iTunes and bought the entire album, I just could not get enough of Repo and still can't.
I absolutely LOVE Terrance Zdunich in this, his voice is so amazing, so deep and especially wonderful as a narrator; my mom's own complaint was that there wasn't enough of him in the movie.
On first watching the movie, I was just so excited that I was actually watching Repo after months of longing and attempting to see it on the road tour when it came to Texas (which, of course, were failed attempts). I am a very critical person, looking for even the most minute flaws in a movie but I could find none in this movie except the fact that they took out "A Needle Through a Bug" which I really enjoyed on the soundtrack. Since I bought the DVD version (I don't have a Blu Ray player), I find it a bit mean on their parts to make the deleted scenes a Blu Ray exclusive. I'm a bit angry about that, but nothing like Luigi's anger.
It is a bit gory, but that is usually backed around a lot of humor just watch "Mark It Up", I was laughing so hard. Luigi is a new favorite character after watching the movie, his anger is just hilarious.
I also love how they filmed this, just the filming alone deserves praise.

I guess if you like musicals, gore, or just an original plot (which no one ever has nowadays in Hollywood) you should see this movie. Actually, I recommend this movie to everyone, because everyone should give this original movie a chance.

Movie Review: You've never seen anything like this
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this film expecting it to be a really really bad movie. I was wrong. While it's not a great cinematic masterpiece, it is a very unique entry into the rock opera genre. One that is worth seeing.
Sure like a lot of rock operas, the majority of lyrics make little sense as a song because they are ment to convey the dialouge of the film but the music that accompany those lyrics is excellent.
What is really surprising is the cast and sets. They seem to preform their roles well. The cast amazed me by their singing talents for the most part. They seem to make the roles their own. Sets were done on a shoestring budget but look a lot more elaberate than most would expect.
This film was a labor of love for the two creators and unlike most films looked at like this, they pulled it off where it would be entertaining.
Set roughly 50 years in the future, organ replacements have become a fashion statement. They can be financed like you would a home or car. And like anything financed, if you miss your payments, they become subject for reposession. The company responsible for providing these financed organs is GeneCo owned by the Largo family. However the head of that Largo family is dying and feels his children are not suitable to inherit his company.
Enter Shilo Wallace, a young 17 year-old girl who has a blood disease and her doctor father, Nathan. Nathan has cared for Shilo since birth, after her mother passed away in child birth. However Nathan has a few dark secrets he is keeping from Shilo. The biggest is that his real job is the feared Repoman for GeneCo.
Then there is Blind Mag, a gifted singer who is known as the voice of GeneCo. She wants out of her contract with GeneCo however there is a high price for her to pay if she leaves. One that can cost her everything.
Find out how the tapsetry of these people's lives weave together with the final threads being sown together at the Genetic Opera.
Who will inherit GeneCo, will Shilo find out Nathan's secrets, and will Blind Mag manage to get out of her contract? All these will be answered at the opera tonight.

Movie Review: "Maggots... vermin... you want the world for nothing."

With the sexy songstress Sarah Brightman, the trashy and whorish Paris Hilton, the washed up actress Alexa Vega, and the brilliant Anthony Stewart Head, Repo! The Genetic Opera is a mind blowing treat for everyone who knows a good film when they see it. Of course, little kids should NOT be seeing this- it is incredibly violent and gory. But with that aside, this film is a specatuclar visual and audio treat. With a talented cast of actors (yes, Hilton was good in this) and amazing visuals, this is a must see.

Genetics is a bitch. In the year 2056, There has been an epidemic of organ failures. However, GeneCo, a transplant company, has stepped in and decided to help people who have suffered the misfortune of the failure. Such organs as Thyroids, Intestines, Brains, organs, and Spines are replaced and soon, surgery becomes a fashion statement. "But I can't afford the surgery!" Well, for a while, they helped fund surgeries. But Months later, those whose payments are past due will be hunted down by The Repo Man.

But aside from that. GeneCo is run by the Largo family. Rotti is the father who is dying of a terminal illness. Pavi is a satistic womanizer and rapist who cuts off women's faces and wears them as masks (his face was badly burned). Luigi is a sadistic killer who will kill anything. And Amber is a surgery addict and a Zydrate-addicted whore. But on the Repo Man's family, the Repo Man is Nathan, a man grieving the loss of Marni, his beautiful wife, has a daughter named Shilo, who is confined to a room due to her sickness she inherited from her mother. All of this takes place over the course of one night, the night of the Genetic Opera.

This film is one of the best I've ever seen. In a world of horror copycats and torture-porn flicks, this is refreshing and a great change. It has enough gore to keep horror fans satisfied, and is filled with great fun from beginning to end. And I was surprised at how great Paris Hilton was. For the first time ever, she impressed me!

Anyways, great movie. See it now!!! You will regret not doing so.

I admit I was skeptical, but I love this film!I have seen literally thousands of movies, but this is the most beautiful film i have ever seen!I watch it like most people listen to cds! Everything about this film is perfect! You can really tell that this was a work of passion for everyone involved. It shines through. This is not for everyone: if you need someone to feed you the same old safe and bland images and sounds you probably wont enjoy this.If you have no sense of humor, or if you dont like horror this probably isnt for you. This is a singular experience.it is truly unique, and i love it! Another reviewer said the songs neither told the story nor worked as songs that person is a FOOL!Look at the other reviews very few are negative, and that should tell you something!Even their comments should let you know its just another pinheaded nobody with verbal diarhea seeking attention. This isnt meant for them.I have been showing this to all of my friends, and every single one has loved it as well!Regardless of the musical aspect! I feel very passionately about this film.I feel everyone should see it and make their own decision. Some will hate it, but I beg to differ. This film is a masterpiece! The creators are absolute geniuses, and I cant wait for the director's cut!It is totally worth the double or triple dip that i foresee. What i didnt foresee was this film hitting my heart like a sledgehammer.I dont ever get emotional for movies, but this one really moved me to tears.I think it actually brought my girlfriend and i closer together which is priceless! It is truly a work of art.Lionsgate really dropped the ball on this one.I would love to see this on the big screen ,but unfortunately never had the chance!I hope they can continue to tell this story so please support this film!If anyone who worked on the film should read this i just want to say i really appreciate the hard work and talent of everyone involved!THANKS!If I could give it ten stars I would!
